The New Star Wars Movie Thread

We should probably have one of these, considering a lot of us are just nerds.

My older son will be five when the first one comes out in 2015, so he'll be the perfect age.

I'm actually excited for these new ones for a couple of reasons:

1. Rick McCallum and George Lucas are gone. Lucas was a great idea guy, but when left to his own devices, he just screwed everything up. McCallum was just an enabler "yes man" type who wouldn't tell George most of his prequel ideas sucked balls.

2. Hopefully Disney looks at what made the first Pirates of the Carribean movie work from a studio standpoint, and just says, "Let's do that again," instead of mucking everything up like they did with all the sequels. The point is Disney can make a great live-action movie for all ages.

3. If Disney is going to turn Star Wars into their own James Bond-type franchise, i.e., put a movie out every couple of years ad infinitum, then there are going to be really good ones and really bad ones, and I'm okay with that.

4. We can always hope they just decide to retcon out most of the prequels as time goes by.

I will treat any Star Wars sequel the way I treat any given Cleveland sports season - expect the worst until proven otherwise.

As long as the lesson of Jar Jar remains in the heads of whoever is making the movies, I am hopeful it will not be repeated.

However, I am a Browns fan, so I'm pretty fucking gullible when it comes to regime changes.

Deadspin reporting J.J. Abrams will be named the director today. I'm okay with it.

There's also a teaser poster floating around Facebook.

It's Star Wars Day!!!

J.J. Abrams said earlier this week he wants John Williams to score the new movie. John Williams said last year that as long as he is alive, he wants to score any Star Wars movie they make.

I am very pleased by both these reports.
