Arizona does everything in their power to hand the Nats that one. Down 2-0 in the 9th, an error allows the Nats to tie it up but they can't get the runner on 2nd in with no outs.

Then after giving up 3 in the top half of the tenth, they immediately come back and tie it up 5-5, but can't get Kearns home from 3rd with 1 out.

Amazing how many opportunities they squandered.

Nats have been blowing games in the 8th, 9th, and 10th innings ALL season.

Yep. Rauch has been alright, but no Cordero is obviously a big blow. I'm pretty surprised they put five runs up that game. As if their lineup wasn't bad enough, they are without Zimmerman, Dukes and Milledge right now.

Must be a rough time to be a Nationals fan, but isn't it always?

A little statistical analysis here.

If you were to bet $100 a game on your selection every night in this pool, you would need to go 19-11 to be profitable at the end of it.

In making that statement, I am using the assumption that the average odds on your 30 selections is -165. I think that's about right. At the beginning, most of your picks will usually be -180, -190, sometimes even -200 or greater. As you get deeper, the odds get lower as you have less teams to choose from. At the end, you're lucky to get a favorite of more than -120.

$100 bet at -165 pays $60. You win $60 19 times, that's $1,140. Eleven losing $100 bets is -$1100. Net +$40.

15-15: -$600
16-14: -$440
17-13: -$280
18-12: -$120

19-11: +$40
20-10: +$200
21-9: +$360
22-8: +$520
23-7: +$680
24-6: +$840

I was meaning towards keeping track of this from the beginning of phase 2. I thought it would be neat to see what the average line was of all 30 selections I made. Kind of like poker...you pick the biggest favorites possible and hope the best odds hold up.

You are loving life if you have the Rangers in a shutout pool. I don't see that offensive juggernaut being blanked.

Gimme $50 at 10-1 that Floyd throws a four-hit whitewash tonight.

Thanks for the props J.P. I really do believe it will be very hard to shut out the Rangers....it will take one hell of a pitching effort.

I caught an error with FRESH from Day 29. He had the Brewers on July 7 and they lost 4-3. He was credited with a win instead of a loss....which would make him 8-8 versus 9-7.

Saturday Baseball Heroics

Unread postby Action Boy » Sat Jul 12, 2008 11:00 pm

What an unreal Saturday in baseball.

The Cubs blow a 7-0 lead in the 8th only to win in it in the 11th.

The Royals are down to their last strike and low and behold a walk followed by a walk off two run HR nets the Royals a 5-4 win.

Then we have the Cardinals implosion. Leading 10-4 heading to the 8th inning. Pirates score 6 runs to send into extra innings. The Cardinals score one in the 10th for a 11-10. Not to be outdone, ex Tribe player, Jason Michaels blasts a two run jack to give the Pirates a 12-11 win.

I should of kept my eyes closed.

The Nationals have got to be AAA level right now. Look at the roster. Not many teams in baseball can do the following in one game:

1) Get three baserunners on in a row, but fail to score a run because Harris the moron tries to swipe second with no outs.

2) Ground into a fielders choice to CF before eventually leaving the bases loaded.

3) Get a single to leadoff the inning, and be out of the inning two pitches later.

The pitching hasn't been terrible, actually.
