Heading to The Mountaineer

Myself and a bunch of buddies are heading for a weekend at the Mountaineer for some golf, beer, and poker. Never been there before but I have been to Vegas a few times. Anyone have any advice about the Mountaineer in terms of times to play, places to eat, clubs in the area etc...?? Thanks, and I'm limping in on all low pairs, if you're at my table.

Been there 5-6 times, never since that got table gaming though.

As a result, I'd usually do the same thing every time. Drop $100 in their tight slot machines, then head back to the horse track. On days with no live racing, they have a pretty nice area with TVs showing all the prevalent horse and dog tracks and their races ... with betting windows of course.

The golf course, haven't played it in probably 15 years.

Nice place though, they dumped a bunch of money into the hotel piece of it a while back, added a sweet spa, and now they got table games. Im actually itching to get back.

I Haven't been since the tables have been in yet either, but my buddies go down pretty often, its less than an hour from where I'm at. They've got table games on both sides now, the race track Swerb's talking about and also there is a full casino across the parking lot (there's a shuttle to go back and forth). I'm not sure if its changed, but when it first opened the poker tables were only on the race track side. make sure you watch the black jack dealers, they're new and pay outs are screwed up sometimes, but everyone that goes down has a blast, saturdays are usually best from what I've heard. next Weekend it should be a good time with the Derby going on.

There are literally areas of West Virginia where you are what's to eat should you make a wrong turn.

I've been told by very mediocre players that the games are soft and you can make some cake if you're not the biggest tool in the box.

But please, if I hear another bad beat story I'm seriously likely to climb a clock tower. So beware the "It was suited" crowd.

When I went, 4 out of every 5 dealers was good at their job. That was also about a week after they added poker. I left up only around $80 cause someone caught on a $200 pot the last hand I played. That said, I milked $100 for 8 hours, so you can sit there for a while.

My issue was that it was such a wide gap at 1-2 NL tables. The min was $40 and the max was $300. That's pretty shitty, IMO.


I haven't played anything else there, but if you've played at Wheeling, some of the rules differ between casinos. For example, Wheeling allows a straddle while Mountaineer didn't.


Avoid the slots at Mountaineer like the plague. You can turn $15 into $75 on a nickel slot if you hit a bonus, but the slots are really really tight.

Peek, I heard the worst bad beat story at Turning Stone. It was secondhand, coming from someone who was playing at a table with Al Krux. It was brutal. I won't tell you because I want you to enjoy the game tonight and not jump off the Valley View bridge beforehand.

You're at least doing it in the right order. If you go to Vegas first and then to Mountaineer you'll slit your wrists at the difference.

You've got to get to Vegas sir. I cannot begin to tell you the shit you will see just sitting at a card table for 10 hours or so. Funniest shit I've seen in my life.

And FWIW, a TCF trip to Vegas 12-24 months after the alleged Mrs. Swerb delivers #2 is something we need to consider. September would be perfect with college football, NFL, and late season baseball.

I would wager my life that a trip like that would be seared into the memories for decades.

Tri- You been to Seneca Niagara or Seneca Allegheny yet? Those rooms are very nice, very professionally run and are a pretty good time as well. 2 hours 15 minutes to Allegheny from Mentor. 3 hours to Niagara.

Plenty of horrific beats in any of them.

He dies penniless on the streets, shuffling around in a grocery cart he turned into a makeshift wheelchair after trading the real wheelchair for 2 bottles of Cadillac Club Bourbon and a chili dog. He's penniless because he went to college at Memphis and never learned to read and because his crew stole all of his assets which consisted of 14 Hummers, 3 Bentleys and 400 lbs of weed.

The wife got the 68 rooms mansion that they built but his 11 kids with 10 women are disputing who is entitled to the remaining property.
