Absolutely comical. Where was Soria? Let me guess they shut him down for the season.....pitchers are so babied these days. Cervelli, Hinske and Miranda rallied the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th. It sounds like a law firm. Are you seriously kidding me? Swerb...go play the lotto....you can't lose with a rally like tonight. Two triple AAA dudes and a castoff who has p,ayed with 28 major league teams. Wow!

Game was just agony to watch. Almost shut it off out of disgust, watching the Yanks start all their regulars, and see them get shut down by some no name coming off Tommy John.

Decide to put myself through the agony of the 9th. Come back from commercial, waiting for the Royals to trot out The Mexicutioner for the save.

But no. They go to Kyle Farnsworth.

Now I gotta figure out how to get a win or two out of the Mets and Nats.

Swerb gets a miracle walk off win from the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th, spearheaded by a cache of September call ups. ASP loses with the Mets. So does kindtim, essentially ending his chances.

Leader Swerb is 19-9. Has the Mets and the Nats left. All kinds of people still alive as we head into the final five days of the pool.

The Washington Nationals for Swerb on Wednesday.

Never before have I been more excited about a game between two teams that are 54-103 and 67-91.

I love gambling.

Big big day for the pool as the Nationals, a 100 loss club will have a major say in the overall outcome.

I hear you JJ - this will be the day of reckoning as most of the leaders have the Nats....Lead has the Mets which I feel good about. That being said the fact that Redding has been their best pitcher for the past couple of months is disturbing...it says alot as to why they are 20 plus games below 500.

Let's see if the New York F'in Mets can win one tonight! No screwups from Manuel and sit the hitting hack otherwise known as Jeff Francoeur.

Look at Lannan's numbers against the Mets:

Lannan (9-13, 3.93 ERA) has dominated New York (67-91) in three starts at Nationals Park, posting a 0.36 ERA in that span with the only two complete games of his career coming this year. He did not issue a walk and scattered seven hits July 21 in a 4-0 victory over the Mets.

Swerb's lock and load choice of the day! Lannan is a LOCK.

In 40 years of existence I have never seen the bullcrap I just watched two nights in a row. Jason Maxwell going yard of Suck Rod for a Grand Slam. Seriously, what's next - I pitch hit for the Mets and go yard for Swerb's final pick. The bottom of order in the 9th and he implodes. all. Swerb has cornered the karma for this phase, relying on Triple AAA players the last two nights.

Minus the sour grapes and anger for K-Rod, this may go down as the most improbable two wins in this pool ever. I can't imagine anything even comes close!

Swerb - give me 6 numbers for the lotto.

It's like poker. You remember the suckouts (and there are always plenty) i.e the one-run losses and blown leads, but you tend to forget the nights you win in the same manner.

This was runner-runner gutshot playing 4-8 offsuit, but what are ya gonna do.

Good point about not remembering the 'good' wins. Somehow though the painful losses are more painful than any great win.

Besides's blaming K-Rod, let's not forget the Mets had bases loaded in the 9th and only got one run when they could have blown the game wide open. Their situational hitting in this series was atrocious and it reflects in their overall record.

I'll tell you what, this Nats team ... you watch that game tonight, and you didn't know shit about shit, it would be unfathomable to believe this was a 105 loss team. This team was one of the worst pitching and fielding teams in recent history, but god damn if they don't play hard and gut it out for 9 innings every single night.

As someone who clicked between Nats and Indians games all year, what a contrast between this Nats team and this bunch of robotic lifeless losers on the Tribe this year.

Future is brighter for the Nats IMO. Bullpen came around after a historically bad start. Clippard, Burnett, McDougal all great additions. Strasburg coming next year to the rotation to add to Lannan. Nyjer Morgan will be back and was a great addition, gave this team life from the leadoff spot. Cornerstone face of the franchise player in Zimmerman. Dunn, Willingham, Dukes ... two good 1b/of prospects should be up next year. #1 pick again next summer.

I think the Nats should add you to their payroll for next year.

I just read an incredible stat regarding the Nationals. They broke a 150 game streak of losses when trailing after eight innings......0-150.

Deduct the $600 for this Phase from his first check. They gifted him that already.

Is the date on this Sept 30, 2008?

You should just cut and paste it into word so you don't have to type the same thing out next September

Wow ... what a finish to Phase III. For the second straight night, Swerb pulls off a win on a 9th inning walkoff by a September call up. Last night it was Justin Maxwell from the Nationals, who hit a walk off grand slam home run off Francisco Rodriguez with two outs in the bottom of the 9th on a 3-2 count.

The win moved Swerb to the magical win total of 20, and eliminated more players. Here's who's mathematically left.

1 Swerb 20 - 9 0.690 W2
2 Earl17 19 - 9 0.679 W1
3 Bill Henry 18 - 9 0.667 W3
4 Action Boy 18 - 10 0.643 L1
4 jpd1224 18 - 10 0.643 W2
4 ASPDawgPound 18 - 10 0.643 W1

Earl, Bill Henry, and ASP also had the Nats and kept pace with Swerb, who has the Mets left. If Swerb can win with the Mets this weekend hosting the Astros, he will guarantee himself at least a spot in the final day playoff tiebreaker.

Four days left.

Results - Day 45/49

1 Swerb 19 - 9 0.679 W1 - Nationals
