Kids in MMA

Unread postby jeck » Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:26 pm

Was watching Outside the Lines and they had a piece on kids fighting MMA style. Some kids were as young as 6 years old. They modified the rules a little by eliminating knees to the head and stuff like that. Frank Shamrock is one of the guys behind this. I was wondering what you guys think about this. Here is the link.

I watched the show.
Frank Shamrock was interviewed on the show.
He just stated it's good for kids to train at an early age. Not sure what you mean that he's behind it.
Some of the things they showed were out of line with the kids being so little. At that age they should be wearing padding and head gear.
I don't have a problem with them learing the sport just the striking aspect should be toned way way down.
Grappling and jui-jitsu are fine at any age really.
There are so many aspects to the sport and it's really nothing new. The growth of the UFC and the other organizations just made people dig.
