72 looks like a bit of a yawner, but at least it will be free!
Coming from a Wolverine, we're the football equivalent of a formerly abused wife of a meth addict who just remarried the safe nice guy. We're just glad we have someone who's aware that it's a rivalry and that tackling on defense is integral. Baby steps.

UFC 72's main event will be sweet
I am also pumped for the Ed Herman vs Scott Smith fight.
There are talks if Franklin wins, he gets a rematch with Silva..........in Cincy.
I'll be there if so.

Kampmann was scratched, Ace is fighting Yushin Okami at 72.

Interesting matchup, much moreso than Kampmann. Both big 185ers who like to beat on smaller guys.

I like Franklin to win and setting up a rematch vs Silva, in Cincy.

I think it's kind of a toss up but I'd go with Okami. Franklin feasted on a really thin 185 division and I don't think he's beaten an elite fighter so I'm not really sold on him. I guess Evan Tanner would be his best win.

Although the good thing about Franklin is he is so well-rounded and I'm sure he'll learn from the beating Silva gave him.

I like Rich Franklin in this one to set up the rematch. Franklin has good boxing skills and defends the take down well. Plus Franklin is a master at cutting weight for the weigh in and then putting it right back on. He always seems to be 15 lbs heavier than his opponent. To me, the only way to beat Franklin is at his own game, which is dangerous due to his power. But obviously Silva is a tremendous boxer and that is what he did.

Okami is a big middleweight, just like Franklin.

Franklin lost to Silva because of that brutal Thai clutch. Hope he worked on that because if not he's just going to eat some more knees if he does get the rematch.

Franklin beat Loiseau and Jason MacDonald, both solid guys also.
Tanner was at the top of his game when Rich made his face look like hamburger meat.

Solid maybe. Certainly not elite.

The Crow is 15-7. An exciting fighter, but not a great one. MacDonald beat up on Leben and Herman and everybody overrated him. When you look at his record he's lost to pretty much every good fighter he's faced.

Rich is going to get the chance to prove whether he's an elite fighter or just the product of a weak division in this next fight and, if he gets through it, his rematch with Silva.

I agree with the fact those guys aren't elite.
I love watching Rich fight and look forward to a great one with Okami.

The rumor sites are now saying that 72 won't be free.

LOL @ the buyrate for that one.

On the UFC events page on their site they had it listed as being on Spike at one point. It's going to be on in the afternoon here b/c it's in Ireland.

Spike TV: We Were Never Scheduled to Air UFC 72
Posted by UFC Junkie on May 14, 2007 at 9:02 am ET
Despite reports to the contrary, Spike TV never intended to broadcast next month’s UFC 72 event and therefore never turned its backs on the UFC.

That’s the word from a Spike TV official who spoke to Steve Sievert, the Houston Chronicle‘s MMA writer who pens the “Brawl Sports” blog.

Up until last week, UFC.com had listed UFC 72 as a Spike TV event, meaning it wouldn’t come with a $39.95 pay-per-view pricetag. However, after UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) posted a report to that effect, the UFC abruptly removed the listing and stated the event would only be available via pay-per-view — at the pay-per-view price. Considering the June 16 event lacks any title shots or even any real contender fights (aside from the main event of Rich Franklin vs. Yushin Okami), many fans were upset by the news.

Since then, it’s been widely accepted that the decision to put the event on pay-per-view was Spike TV’s, not the UFC’s.

That’s not the case, according to Spike.

From the Houston Chronicle:

“We were never scheduled to air that (UFC 72),” said a Spike spokesman. “I’ve heard the rumors (that Spike backed out of televising the show due to lack of a compelling fight lineup), but we never committed to airing UFC 72. It’s not as if we turned our backs on the UFC.

“Three big fights in two weeks would have been very tough,” the Spike spokesman said, who declined to comment on whether the UFC specifically requested that the network carry the event tape delayed like it did UFC 70.

Spike is currently set to broadcast UFC Fight Night 10 on June 12 and The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale on June 23.

UFC 72 takes place at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It’ll be the first UFC event ever held in Northern Ireland.

For the full story, head over to the Houston Chronicle.
