Assault in the Ring -- HBO

Unread postby Lebowski » Thu Aug 06, 2009 7:11 am

Anyone see this documentary on HBO?

It's the story of the Bill Collins Jr vs Luis Resto fight from back in the 80s. Collins was an up and comer, Resto was an experienced fighter who was expected to give him a good fight to get him over the hump. Collins ends up losing by decision. After the fight, it is discovered that the majority of the padding in Resto's gloves were removed. Collins suffered damage to his eyes and never fought again.

The documentary follows Resto today, after getting out of prison relating to the incident. He confronts his former trainer and cornerman on the incident. Both spent time in prison and were banned from the sport, but each of their places in the world today are in stark contrast to one another.

Check it out.

I DVR'ed it also.
Probably watching this weekend, very interested to hear and see everything rather than what I've read recently and in the past.

The trainer comes off as the biggest villain. Dude was banned from working corners, but still has made a living training fighters. And is covered with gold and ice, head to toe, for his efforts.

Wow.
2 of the biggest pieces of shit I have ever seen or heard about in Resto and Panama.
Both guys are just as guilty and watching this made me sick.
One guy has nothing and I'm gald.
The other seems to have done alright and deserves shit.
Unreal.
How about the fact the case wasn't reopened?
The gloves were doctored and I feel the NYSAC is just as guilty as all the fucks in the corner.
A sad story that ruined a life of a promising fighter.
Too bad the other assholes didn't get the same fate.
Sick.
