Anyone else get a chance to see this kid fight on HBO Boxing After Dark last night. Local kid, middleweight from Youngstown, now 30-0 with 27 KOs.

Looked very impressive last night against a legitimate foe. Pavlik is now one more win away from a title fight against Jermain Taylor. Exciting stuff ...

Spoon, catch it, it was a very good fight.

Very active, 1st three rounds, both guys just came out lobbing haymaker after haymaker at each other.

Pavlik was impressive. Amibidextorous, throws power punches effectively with both hands, and from all angles. Defends well. A 6'2 middleweight that is not that easy to hit, which is saying something.

As bad as the heavyweight division is right now, the middleweight division is thriving. With Jermain and Winky at the top, and a whole bunch of very talented contenders like Pavlik waiting in line.

The commentators were bad though. Kellerman is good, but Lennox was awful, and the stiff filling in for Lampley was horrific.

"The Ghost" is the real deal. I've seen almost all of his fights. Last night was the most entertaining. He needed that. He's having trouble getting any big names to step in the ring with him.

Pavlik got hit too many times in my eyes, if that guy he fought had any power, he would have been in big trouble.
As far as him being the real deal, I'm not so sure. He looked good but I can't see him hanging with any of the big boys.

Kellerman is awesome. Lewis not so much.
The best part of the fight was when Lennox said Pavlik was blocking a lot of the shots and Max chimes in to say "Yeah, with his face"

I would like to see Pavlik get a shot. Great record, good skills, and a hometown boy. I just think Jermain Taylor or Winky Wright pummel him.

Great article on The Ghost, his win over Zertuche, and his future prospects.

It was supposedly all set up for him to face fellow top middleweight contender Edison Miranda after this win, bit Miranda went off and took some other fight.

Pavlik is now trying to get a fight with Jermain Taylor, which his camp feels he is now owed as the #1 WBC contender. I guess Jermain's camp is trying to instead schedule a fight with the kid from The Contender (Mora), which would be an easier fight for Taylor, and also mean more money due to Mora's name recognition.

PD reported a couple weeks back that HBO is trying to get Pavlik to fight on the undercard of the Jermain-Mora scrap.

Pavlik is instead trying to set up a fight with Miranda, with the winner getting a mandatory with Jermain in September IIRC.

Pavlik-Miranda is all but set for July 28th, and the fight will be on HBO. Promoters are looking at both The Q, and the Wolstein downtown as possible venues.

Winner would get Jermain Taylor in the fall.

Who on here went to the Chevrolet Centre in Downtown Youngstown to see him fight? I decided on going down, and it was absolutely amazing.

The hometown crowd was so electric, and you would've never have known there was just 5,000 people there; it was that loud.

I've followed Kelly for some time now and I am telling you; he is the real deal. Miranda better be ready for a long grueling battle; which he will eventually LOSE.

You probably live around the Nottingham-Woodside Lake area.

I'd assume the BW3's Downtown and in Austintown will show the fight. Same can be said about Quaker Steak and Lube.

Well the main event isn't much of an event since JT is huge and Spinks ain't. Jermain is due an easier opponent though. I just wish he'd go back to using his jab instead of his more recent strategy of hugging and waiting.

Will have to be willing to jab against a more accomplished fighter. Started to do it once he won the fiirst 4 rounds and looked a little shaky with avoiding punches and landing the jab with anything behind it. Some holes that a straight right hand could find give him trouble.

All that being said, I don't think we aren't going to see Taylor/Pavlik. Taylor will vacate and fight another Spinks type guy for the money.

Jermain was a GREAT fighter before he won the titles. Now he's just not. And those comments were weak. But, even though I'm a huge fan of Jermain, he would get his ass kicked by Pavlik so he probably doesn't want to fight him.

Losing those titles is the best thing that can happen to Jermain because he needs to wake up and get back to being that hungry fighter he was a few years ago when he actually threw his devastating jab.

If there is a title fight, it will NOT be vs Jermain Taylor but maybe Billy Bob Taylor or Joe Has Been off the streets.

Call it wishful thinking all you want, but the Fed Ex Forum was only 1/3 full for that card Saturday Night, according to reports. And 1/3 of 19000 is about 6000 as well.

If you put that fight in Youngstown, IF JT VACATES, then the chances are that much more likely. The Chevy Centre can hold around 7000 for boxing events btw; and would be packed to capacity of Pavlik fought here for a title; his ultimate dream.

I agree, it's going to come down to $$. But after reading JT's comments after his fight I think he wants to fight Pavlik. He was frustrated that Spinks spent the whole fight running around the ring and I think he believes that he can put on a better fight against a more aggressive opponent.

ALSO, I think HBO will push for this fight since they know it will be exciting and as we all know boxing is severely lacking in excitement factor.

I live in Youngstown my friend, we are known for our boxing. Does Mancini or Arroyo ring a bell??? I have followed boxing my entire life; and I have followed Pavlik for the last 7 years.

You can't tell me that if Pavlik beats up on Taylor; which he would do; that Taylor can still go take a stroll on the yellow brick road up to the next weight class and fight for a title belt there..... There is no way.

Now if Taylor vacates and moves up; he at least can go up there in contention for a belt with a few fights.

Bottom Line: A loss for Taylor would be disastrous for him and his forseeable future. He is likely going to vacate because he doesn't want to lose.
