don't forget that Tiger, David Toms, Davis Love III, Chris DiMarco, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Stuart Appleby, Sabbatini & Ames didn't even make the cut.

Els was never a factor and ViJay never got involved even though he was right there!

Seems like a lot of the best didn't play their best. You've got to think Wing Foot won this one going away.

It's one thing to hit poor shots. It's a whole different thing displaying the terrible course management Phil showed on 18.

Having hit just 2/13 fairways all day, the decision to play driver was a poor one on 18. Even at 490 yards, a 280 yard Phil 3 metal would have left him in the fairway and a 5 iron away.

But the next decision was even worse, electing not to punch out, punch on, and two putt for a playoff.

And Monty ... that was just a meltdown. Center cut, grade A position on 18. First he switches clubs after a couple practice swings. In my history watching golf, that always ends badly for the player involved. Then he hits the worst 7 iron he hit all week into heavy rough. Chips on, and three jacks it.

That was your last chance at a US Open Monty.

Im not saying I would not succumb to the same pressure. But these guys both just needed to bogey 18 and they were OK. Neither could.

At least for me, the Mickleson/Monty tank jobs will go down with Norman, Scott Hoch, and Van de Velde as one of the biggest meltdowns in recent golf history.
