Anyone following and aware of this new format for the 2007 PGA Tour season?
Should be interesting to see how things play out. In theory, this is the right move. It essentially incorporates a point system, and a four week/four tournament playoff system that goes from mid-Aug to mid-Sept, awarding 10 mill to the champ, who essentially becomes the player of the year.
And it ends the significant part of the PGA Tour season before football gets going, when everyone stops watching golf on the weekend anyway.
Top 144 in points get into the 1st playoff tournament. Those 144 have their points reset at this point. Not to even, but the field and point totals are leveled a bit. Top 120 go to the 2nd tournament. Top 70 advance to the 3rd. And the top 30 go on to the playoff final, the customary season ending Tour Championship.
