Would love to see Scott Loeffler become QB coach. He is very good...in spite of being a Michigan man...from Barberton originally.

Chuck Heater also played at Michigan....and is most recently (as of 2010 at least) safeties coach at Florida.

He was rumored early as a DC candidate, but I'm hearing that negotiations are underway with Mike Stoops for that job. Maybe Heater comes in as a defensive asst.

No Herbie...no Spielman. Spielman has already made a public statement that he promised his late wife he would continue with the charity work....and Herbie was supposedly spoken with only in passing by Meyer, and is not being considered. Herbstreit is where he belongs, I guess.

Impressed with Urban's honesty in the presser.

Gene Smith just babbled and sounded foolish as usual.

The picture looks fake as hell.

Couple other takeaways thus far. He couldn't seem to contain the enthusiasm with Braxton and had nice things to say about Fickell. I get a feeling as well, he doesn't think NCAA sanctions are going to that bad. Also, he could barely contain his distaste with the SEC and the recruiting stuff and fishy things that happen there.

Clearly, did not want to address the "feelers" question. He kept using tOSU as "us" almost couldn't help himself. Knows almost everyone in the presser.

Lastly, he seemed super comfortable and you get a sense he thinks he can win immediately. Also he's and the school are going to have a TREMENDOUS advantage in recruiting while still practicing with the current team. To have a full month ahead of many other coaching change situations, this will really benefit the program and be ready for big things next year. Sounds like OL and LB are IMMEDIATE targets.

And I say it isn't the heights or the size of their heads or the length of their arms, but the pixelation of the figures' outlines (look at Fickell & Griffin's shoulder lines, especially) compared the the background. Things look screwy when you combine & resize images of different resolutions.

Meyer on the recruiting trail with all the positive press that is sure to result from this hire.... This could end very nicely indeed. Already had a receiver committed to Miami switch to tOSU sunday night.

Not sure what the future holds for Brionte Dunn (not really sure I care). He expressed today that he is not interested in playing in a spread. He has also been pretty upfront that scUM is his #2 choice, so that would suck.

Joel Caleb (big WR out of VA) is now interested in coming as are a few other highly recruited national kids. I would be really interested in trying to get former PSU lean Spence out of PA.

In any case, this is an amazing day. As for the SEC stuff. There were rumors several years ago regarding Urban Meyer and the Bull Gators. The Bull Gators are FL's big $$ boosters and there have been rumors since I started paying attention that $$ flows from the BGs to recruits and players. Within the Bull Gators there are a couple of heavy hitters and what I had heard/read was Meyer was not particularly pleased with the goings on between the players and boosters. I am not dumb enough to believe anyone is clean, so at this point nothing surprises me.

There are so many rumors around all the programs that basically just prove that tOSU was the team that got caught. You have the suits (and more, still waiting for someone to explain Trent Richardson's 50K truck to me) at 'Bama, scam Newton, numerous reports on payouts to Clemson players (including facebook pictures of a couple of clemson recruits holding about 5K in cash) along with the rumors of cash payouts to Tajh Boyd (who was all but locked up to tOSU until he committed to Clemson out of the blue). It goes on and on.

In the end you just hope your school doesn't get caught (again).

As soon as JT was fired and the Meyer name was floated this past June,(and before Auburn was "cleared") I was skeptical that they would want to hire a guy straight out of the SEC on the heels of the ethics violations by Tressel....fox...henhouse...and all that.

But then two different media guys I trust told me that the persistent story out of Fla was that Meyer's leaving had less to do with his health/stress issues, and more to do with his increasing unwillingness to wink at the underhanded shit he was forced to go along with to compete in the SEC with the other major recruiting cheaters. His comments today bear that out, and I'm sure that the UF/SEC people will be none too happy with the things he said tonight. Tough shit.

He really was dancing when the issue of the first "feelers" came out. No way he wants to go there, and he really stonewalled the question, and laughed it off with the crack about 12-year olds emailing him. He can say with a straight face that he didn't have "official" contact with OSU till last Sunday, but we were told of a "done deal" all of six weeks ago, with the then-projected date of the announcement turning out to be off by exactly one day.

Dunn is committed until he's not, and he has said he will wait to hear from Meyer before deciding if he wants to decommit. Everyone else is solid, it appears. Not sure if they'll add another WR unless one decommits...they have four in the class already. I sure hope the major push is on for OT's Jordan Diamond, Evan Goodman (whose commit to ASU is up in the air with Erickson getting canned)...maybe Dodson, and for sure Jeff Davidson's kid. They could use three OT's...zero so far for '12.

Epitropolous (WR from UA) is a Tressel-type recruit all the way...thinking a bigger Lil Dane...who can also punt or play safety. If they can land another blue-chipper, maybe someone like the Pickerington kid Lewis looks elsewhere? The Lakeland kid who just committed has been rising rapidly in the scouts' eyes I hear. Plus he's from Lakeland, maybe the #1 program in the country, and you want your foot in the door.

BTW, someone pointed out tonight that if OSU fans are uncomfortable with the new guy's initials being UM, they can take heart. His full initials turn out to be UFM, which works out kind of nicely, no?

I figure tOSU could pack about 5-6 more in depending on transfers/guys who get kicked out.

OT: We have none. We need lots. I would take any and all of the following:
-Dodson
-Diamond
-Davidson
I think the Buckeyes could get all 3. I think they are very likely to get 2, Diamond and Davidson. I am not sure about flipping Dodson, but there are lots of connected guys that think it is a possibility. Oh yeah, I call Kyle Kalis and tell him to go fuck himself.

LB: I have no idea where we get another one, but we need one.... we don't need trash either. Mason Monheim is the best available in the state and I don't think he is good enough with this few spots. I think the answer is out of state.

DE: I give Se'Von Pittman one shot. One chance to commit, if not I wish him well at East Lansing. No matter what Pittman does, I still call Noah Spence.

WR: We are good unless they can land a super prospect, Dorial Green-Beckam or something, Joel Caleb is pretty close to that group, so if he wants on board I squeeze him in.

RB: I call Dunn and see what he wants to do. If he wants in great. If not, go ahead and head up north and take your 4 beatings like a man.

In the end, I think Meyer is going to pull a couple of rabbits out of his hat by the end. Personally, I think we end up with a few guys that we did not even have a realistic shot at last week. I am praying for Noah Spence! Spence and Washington on the same DL would be a show stopper in 3 years. It would give Meyer 2 DEs like he had abusing Troy Smith in 2006.

I'm with you on the toughts regarding Dunn and Pittman, although I think Pittman comes and Dunn doesn't.

Screw him.

Get OL, a LB and a couple of those guys he has earmarked. This class will end up in the Top 15 which was once thought to be impossible weeks ago.

Just have to wonder what comes thru on the violations front, as well. Meyer insinuated that it would just be schollies, not sure he would know that with complete certainty but who knows. For all his suckiness, Gene Smith is as connected as one could be in regards to the NCAA. Still he's been surprised already (Posey suspension).

From what I saw of him at the Glenoak game I saw, his character is really questionable in my eyes.

He's got some growing up to do. His play also wasn't all that impressived in the two games I saw of him back to back. Junior year he got shut down, and Senior year he didn't seem to have that 2nd level speed I'd look for in a runningback.

I find it kind of funny how the university...Meyer...and the media playing along, willingly conspire in pretending that Urban Meyer wasn't, for all practical purposes, hired six weeks ago, after holding an unofficial offer for months before that. It's an open secret that there has been behind-the-scenes negotiating all along, but now we're supposed to act like it didn't happen.

They had a meeting last Sunday, for the very first time...honest...and by Wednesday, they had all the details ironed out. Offer..acceptance...clean. The attorneys were able to crank out that 40 million dollar deal over lunch Tuesday, I expect.

It's just the little white lie everybody plays along with...it's not like I'm outraged at it or anything...it just kind of amuses me.

Personally, I like Warren Ball more at the next level. Speed is a little better, better hands, more versatile. I think Dunn is a poor man's Beanie Wells without the quick feet that made Beanie an animal. I am really looking forward to 2013 Buckeye lock and #1 RB in the nation Derrick Green.

I was reading a bit about Dillon Baxter getting released from his USC slot and the fact that he's free to look elsewhere. One of the hints or suggestions was that Lane Kiffin was making things difficult on a few marginal kids who for whatever reason could not get on the field. Whether Baxter was just over-rated or just a jerk he couldn't get into the rotation, so he was happily let go when disgruntled. The implication being that since Kiffin is working on scholarship reductions, why not encourage a few non-difference makers to leave or make life hell until they ask for a release. This allows him to still work his recruiting pipeline somewhat. I don't know 15 or 10 whatever it was is a huge number so we shall see how Kiffin manges this.

So I realize we'll have a slight reduction, but there is a good chance with our smaller number we can continue with normal classes, we just won't replace the guys who leave for whatever reason.

I'd love to hear the whole story on Urban and Florida and where it went sour. I don't know enough to speak on health issues, or behind the scenes pressure to break the rules, etc. All I do know, from watching Florida play, is that the drop off in the last two years has been significant. I don't know if that was Urban getting worn thin, or a big FU you UF, but he left Muschamp with a terd. I would just love to know what went on behind closed doors there for the past 4 years.

Still a heavy FSU lean, but Tressel never even got guys like this to come up, let alone got them to come up while committed to the Florida Pen League.
