Anyone Been to Rosenblatt/Omaha?

Unread postby peeker643 » Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:56 pm

Last season for the CWS at Rosenblatt. You realize the number of Greats who have walked that field? $70 for a pack of 10 Gen Adm tix, good for any game you get there early enough to get in, including the Final.

13 hours and change to get there, a direct shot on 80W.

Split the drive, leave at 8pm Friday night, sleep a few hours while the other one drives, take in the two Saturday games and head back after the 7pm game. Home for lunch Sunday.

Just sayin'.....

Well I won't be heading to Omaha with Timmah or Mcreek, but c'mon, that'd be a cool, quick trip for historical purposes, no? You're almost obligated to try.

Probably serve beer there too dude.

Great Father's Day request as well.

I've got all the angles covered.

Always wanted to see that place as well as take my son to the LLWS. Unfortunately I don't have a son to use for an excuse to see that but I could talk Lisa into me going to see the last CWS in an historic stadium.

You're going to drive 26 hours to see two games? Or am I completely missing your post?

I would have strongly considered it if it wasnt those dates. Would only be 8 hours.

No, you've got it dead on.

I like to think of it as driving 26 hours to see a historical site and a couple of games, but when it comes down to it I could watch two games and maybe extend it and watch four. You realize how much time I waste here? What about people who drive longer to see the World's Biggest Effing Hole out in Arizona/Colorado?

I'd rather have a ball game or two at the end of my ride.

Shit, 26 hours in a car for two games at the CWS is way more productive then I usually am.

It's a story to tell if nothing else. I clearly think Rich/TCF/STO should finance it, give me a video camera and then air it on STO when I get back. Me and Rob will document our trip halfway across the country. Beats the shit out of another 'Beer Money'.

Who's in dammit. I wanna do this.

$70 for the ten game Gen Adm book. Don't know if you can use them all at once or if they are designated for each game. Could probably get more info on that. Imagine you could sell what you don't use and I don't know if GA seats are available on a per game basis. One of those deals where it's probably cheaper to get tix as schools are eliminated.

Gas would be probably a total of $200-$250 divided up between however many people go. That's a guess based on my 4x4 Jeep though. Maybe someone else has something more efficient.

So if it's a Gen Adm ticket pack, let's say 4 guys go and we're going to 3 games. So we would only need 1 ticket pack + 2 extras? Since we'd need 12 tickets? So the tickets would be $70 + whatever two extras would cost? And that would be split 4 ways?

Get a gambler to go with you and stay in one of the casinos for free...well not really free... just dont have to pay them directly to stay. My dad isn't even a huge player, but he gets a free room in the Harrah's every time he drives out and comes back.

BTW +1 on the effin hole in the ground. That place blows, most overrated place ever.

Yes. If You can use one GA pack any way you want. And I'd have to check on that. Pretty much $7 per game for GA if I'm reading it right.

GENERAL ADMISSION TICKET BOOK $70.00
10 Tickets Per Book - Maximum order, 10 Books. Order early, quantities limited.

General Admission (GA) tickets are non-guaranteed seats in the right outfield and left outfield bleachers. The approximate capacity is 5,400 for these aluminum, bench-style seats with seat backs. GA tickets are not designated for a specific session or date and these seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. As long as the ticket holder arrives early enough to be seated, the tickets are good for all games, including Finals games. If the GA section is filled to capacity, the gates will close. Gates may reopen after a few innings or ticket holders may watch the game on the large-screen TV in the plaza area. General admission tickets are non-guaranteed seats.

On days with two games, the stadium will be cleared between games. That means you are required to leave the stadium after the first game if you plan to also attend the second game. And you will need to stand in line again for re-entry into the second game. Please keep in mind that if you stay for the entire first game, it may be difficult to get in to the stadium for the start of the second game.

If we can go storm chasing while we're there, I'm definitely down.

Rosenblatt floods if someone spills the XL Coke. One reason they're building another stadium in Omaha. So you'd definitely have time to chase whatever it is you're looking to chase. Personally I prefer to chase Maker's Mark with a 22oz Yuengling.

I'm also not opposed to chasing down a river flush or open ended straight when I'm feeling bold.

Formally requesting some sort of travelogue documentation with photos and/or video of this trip. Better yet, UStream it.

Sounds like a great trip. The kind of nonsense that makes memories.

Field of Dreams movie sight would be somewhat along the way for you guys also. Pack a couple of gloves, a bucket of balls and a bat and go take some bp in Iowa.

Now, this I've done and can highly recommend. Dyersville, IA near Dubuque. The bat and balls are there 24/7, as are random fathers and sons and college kids on pilgrimages. You stand in, take 10 hacks, run one out, then go shag flies for an hour with the rest of 'em. It's quite awesome.

This would far and away be worth the trip.

But isn't that lot for sale? Are they going to keep it the same way?

I'm telling ya Rich, get Roach on the blower and knock this out. Sounds like at least 10 people would watch the video and that puts us ahead of the 700th replay of 'Wahoo! What a Finish!' that's probably airing in the near future.

For $750 (to cover expenses) and a borrowed video camera it could be theirs. They'll need to edit my F Bombs when Rob gets us lost in some corn maze just east of Des Moines. But ten minutes straight of footage while he's drunkenly snoring in the car will be worth it though.

And me plunking Tripods at the Field of Dreams and running into the corn when he gets pissed and chases me or me relieving myself in Rob's souvenir Moonlight Graham helmet will have them begging us for more episodes.

With some of my offensive and off-color jokes, I'd be a hit with STO. I mean, think about it. All Bets Are Off with a guy with gambling and tax evasion issues. Chuck's Last Call with his alcohol problems.

A TCF panel show based off the trip would be legendary.

Brian gargling with his spit juice while reciting the alphabet is always classic stuff :thumb up:

BTW, I don't snore when I pass out, I piss myself...

Can we bring the gnome along for the trip?

Maybe we should start selling NBA Final squares to help broker this thing

I'd love to be a part of this as I have about 3 fifths of unopened Wild Turkey sitting at home. However at 6'6" / 250 I'd take up WAY TOO much room and I need my head room and an area to stretch my legs. F**king genetics stymie me again!

No problem. Used to do it all the time with the 'cargo' we hauled across the Rio Grande and into Arizona.

Well, not all the time. But we did it if their accounts were paid up. More often than not.

Sometimes.

Did any of you guys play D1 baseball?

Trying to figure out whether to push the boys a little harder or just let them continue having fun. They actually seem to like watching these games. However I know that personally at the end of my Sr. year in high school I was pretty much done with sports. (only D3 schools calling --basketball). I would imagine these kids are in a meat grinder with practice/academics etc.

I was the same way. I didn't want anything to do with playing ball after high school. My roommate at BG (and teammate at Euclid in the mid 80's) walked on at BG as a catcher for a couple seasons til he got tired of it as well. Priority scheduling with classes but 6am weight work all year and 2pm practices for three months sucked the life out of him. IMO they've got to be kids too or there's a definite chance of burnout. I wouldn't let it last forever, but stepping off the accelerator doesn't hurt.

And I wanted to ask you if you have any break downs on Matt LaPorta's swing. Lead Pipe and I were talking about this about 6 weeks ago and I'm interested to know if you've looked at his swing and analyzed it. It scares me actually. Just something really funky with the stride/rotation in the hips that stands out to me.

Interested in your opinion.

Peek I've been so busy with my teams and getting ready to move to Orlando that I've hardly watched the Tribe this year. I really need to either subscribe to the package online of get off Uverse so I can get the games down there.

Usually I am stuck when I get a swing clip of someone like LaPorta just snagging it off of mlb.com's site. Which means most of the time just home runs swings. Home run swings are nice because usually you have to do something right, but it's better if you can watch some mis-hits, and it's pretty hard to get good views of a poorly hit ball. Does STO show close-ups on a pop-up or chopper?

Having said that, there are several swings on the team I look at and just think uggh, and LaPorta is one of them. Marte is another that makes me cringe a bit. I haven't seen enough of the new blood to make any opinions but I did make clips of LaPorta at one time. It would be interesting to see if anything has changed much, mine should be from when he first got called up.

If being on the bench during my freshman year at KSU counts as playing, then yes...

Chris George came in that same season and got drafted by MIL

STO doesn't offer too many close-ups other than on HRs, etc unless Manning, on rare occasion, wants to point something out. If you find anything let me know because I'd love to hear LaPorta's swing broken down and analyzed. The good news is I'm not sure much has changed since he was called up other than him being sent back down. ;-) ;)

Me and CDT last Halloween in Columbus when we went as Arthur and Lancelot and talked up tons of chicks (And not tons by way of gross tonnage either. I'm talking volume):
