Well UCLA just crushed Kent 15-1.

Kent got the toughest draw in the entire tournament. Sent out to the West coast in a regional with the #6 overall seed, the defending national champs, and an Irvine team who has played deep into the tournament each of the last 4 seasons.


Watching Dartmouth and FIU in the Coral Gables regional right now on ESPNU. Eric Byrnes is in the booth doing color, and he is the worst announcer I have ever heard in my life. Whoever thought it was a good idea to give this dolt a microphone should be fired on the spot.



ETA -- Just talked to a buddy who is in LA for the regional and alot of Kent St players are saying that their coach (Scott Strickland) has agreed in principle to take the head coaching position at Ohio State.

I try so hard to get into College Baseball. But I can't for a trivial and silly reason, the bats. The noise they make gives me a shooting pain right behind my eyes.

That's a very common sentiment. I think the fact that there is no professional baseball within 300 miles of us combined with LSU's success when I was coming up sort of dampens that for me. Also, the fact that their seasons start so early (Feb) makes it hard for teams up North to really cultivate a truly "national" following.

I like watching college baseball this time of year. Goes back to Tommy Hinzo days, But the equipment makes the game a joke these days. Guys are hitting balls off the handle 370 feet.

The bat/equipment maufacturers own college baseball.

Watched UCLA put LSU in the loser's bracket last night. Through two games, UCLA looks damned solid. Great starting pitching, I've heard they have a good pen (haven't had to see much of it yet), and there defense is near flawless. The fact that Arizona St (#1 overall seed) swept them easily during Pac-10 play is shocking.

I would love to see a Texas/Arizona St final. 2 out of 3 with those pitching staffs would be the perfect way to cap off the final CWS in Rosenblatt.
