Very skeptical about Florida being ranked that low. They are loaded, if inexperienced at QB. They also have Penn State at #14. No way are they going to be that good, IMO

Not for me brother. I think they are a very legit contender to win the B10. Being that OSU is going to be as good as they will be, they should be ranked fairly high nationally.

I think they are very, very overrated this season.

They lost three on the Oline and lived a charmed life last season.

Look for 4 losses IYAM.

I think the kid they have backing up Stanzi (who played against us) is Dynamite. Will be the best Iowa QB in some time IMO.

If Stanzi gets hurt early I think they have a better season in 2010 and through 2012.

Swerb's right...and it points up the fact that these polls (in order to be proven right in December) need to pick, not the teams that are the best teams in the country, but the teams that are most likely to be 12-0 after 12 games. Big difference, as the Boise St. ranking proves. Florida plays at Alabama. That's the only reason they're not Top 5.

Regardless of what I think about where UT should be ranked, its tough for a #4 to be underrated, let alone vastly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the highest a Boise St. has been ranked pre-season ever? Meaning if there was a year that they (and some of the talking heads) might get their wish of a Boise playing for a title it would be this year, no?

In the last 3 seasons, we have dropped 2 to Alabama, 2 to Ole Miss, 2 to Arkansas. We are middle tier in our own division, defense and QB play have deteriorated more each year, and our head coach looks like a bumbling idiot on gameday.

Me? Describing UT in hyperbolic fashion? Never....

But, seriously, I don't think there will be a huge drop-off. Max of 2 losses this season, possibly none in the regular season. My guess is a ranking between 5 and 10 sounds about right.

Gilbert will be a stud and will be a Heisman candidate in 2011 & 2012 and Aaron Williams will win the Thorpe award if Patrick Peterson doesn't. Defense will be very good as long as Muschamp is in Austin and the offensive line and running backs did some good things in the spring. Major weaknesses are WRs and Gilbert's inexperience.

Les Miles has done less with more than almost any other coach in the country the past 2 seasons. LSU had some sick talent on offense and buttload of returning offensive linemen, but the offense sputtered all season long.

I would blame it on the fact that our coach has a Big 11 pedigree, but the guy before him did as well and his teams weren't finishing in the middle of the division.

I sympathize with you LSU guys. I thought they'd be hell on wheels when I saw Randle, Jefferson and Sheperd playing in the same offense. The team was (and still is) very young, though, from what I can see.

Not sure if Miles is as much of a numbskull as he appears to be at times. Maybe he can land at Michigan after this fall, and become their latest numbskull. It's all good then.

The talent is only getting better. I've been following recruiting actively for about 10-12 years and the senior class this upcoming season (class of 2011) is the best recruiting crop Louisiana has ever put out. Thing is, I think Les is a good dude. Great family man, really involved in the community, I'd love to see him dominate at LSU. His teams are just sloppy, undisciplined, not well put together.

I don't know man. Even those terribly coaches mid-late 90's teams were putting pro players out consistently. As long as there are kids who want to stay close to home for college, they'll have a little gas in the tank. But it's meaningless if the coach has no direction, so it's really an argument over nothing.

Also, Oregon at #8 surprises me with Masoli out. That's going to be an interesting team to keep an eye out for. I have to believe that SC will play some ball this year. Lane is a prick, but he's a shot of swagger and his ol man will have that defense playing lights out asap.
