UCF seemingly did everything honestly and righteously in discovering, self-investigating and even self-reporting NCAA violations and yet the school was placed on two years of probation Thursday. Meanwhile, the staff members who are responsible for the cheating are now at big-time BCS schools and were given a “two-week” suspension, according to the NCAA report released Thursday.

Just goes to show that the BCS doesn’t just control all the money; it controls the NCAA Committee on Infractions, too.

It’s like Stewart Mandel, the excellent college football writer for Sports Illustrated, cracked via a Twitter dispatch Thursday: “The NCAA was so mad at USC, it places UCF on two years of probation.”

Here’s all you need to know about Steve Rubio, the UCF grad assistant who was a central figure in the UCF investigation: He left the Knights to go to work for Lane Kiffin at Tennessee. The other central figure, former UCF recruiting administrator Ed Marynowitz, is now the director of player personnel for Nick Saban at Alabama.

Translation: These guys honed their illicit skills at UCF and now have taken them to college football’s biggest stage of non-compliance: The Southeastern Conference (motto: If you ain’t cheatin; you ain’t competin’).

But, seriously, how can the NCAA label UCF’s transgressions as “major violations” when the two orchestrators of the cheating were given such a minor slap on the wrist?

...and this is a guy from Florida!

Let's wait and see what happens to USC before we accuse them of just punishing the small fries of college football...but the appearance here is that cheating pays...if these two are essentially promoted instead of being sanctioned for what they did at UCF
