If you're Tennessee you're pretty pissed, aren't you? I mean, what kind of dick move is this?

Bingo.

Seems to me that Kiffin may be running from sanctions just as Petey did. He was in a lot of hot water in his one year, was he not?

Maybe he can get a friendly contract at USC knowing that he's walking into potential NCAA problems (instead of taking the heat for the ones he caused at Tennessee).

I remember Thad Matta got an extra year worked onto the end of his contract for every year that OSU had to miss the tournament (turned out to be just one year, but that hadn't been decided yet when Matta took over).

I don't see what's wrong with it.

There's no loyalty in either direction, so when given the opportunity to advance yourself why not do it?

Would any of you turn down a dream job because you just got a new job a year ago?

I think Kiffin will be fine at USC once he rides out the wave generated by Hurricane Carroll. USC getting the old man with the kid is a coup for USC.

I do wonder what the recruiting fallout will be with NSD approaching. Any TN recruits worth a shit back in play? Furls? Jesse? Coz?

Tennessee was headed for NCAA sanctions with Kiffin there. Now he is going to a place that is neck deep in it? Awesome.

TN issues nowhere near USC's. Kiffin can walk away from his own mess and blame someone else for the one he now inherits. Win-win for a dick like him.

Tennessee has committed at least six secondary NCAA recruiting violations -- unintended violations of rules not deemed to have given the school an unfair competitive or recruiting advantage -- since Lane Kiffin took over as coach.

But I still say he can coach and I know his old man can.

Those guys will know more than me, but I've already read about Tampa OL Chaz Green being a possibility. He's still uncommitted but was believed to be a Tennessee lean with OSU and Florida trailing.

If he was leaning TN because of Kiffin, I see no reason why he couldn't just switch to USC, but I guess this could get us back in the picture.

We definitely need at least one more OL in this class. With Henderson a tossup and James a Notre Dame lean, this could be another option.

Yep. UT may have considered 6 minor violations a Sunday in church after Fullmer, but Kiffin is shady.

Shady might be okay if you're already balls deep in sewage like UT was and USC is.

Kiffin might actually look saintly next to Fullmer and Carroll. ;-) ;)

I can't stop laughing right now. This is classic, has there ever been a coaching move that screwed both schools at the same time? This asshole gave his newborn son the middle name "Knox" last year. He may get USC the death penalty before this is all said and done.

And I leave you with this (some unsavory language towards the end).....

Chaz Green is basically the only one, and he has already set up a visit to.........you guessed it, florida.

BTW, Kiffin just scored his first commitment........Norm Chow, for OC.

If that really is his reaction that is classic. However, I am not sure he wouldnt pull the same stunt if he were in the same situation. It is shady as hell, but really going to the Pac10 is going to give Lane a better chance of success than going up against the SEC studs. I bet the NCAA doesnt have the balls to drop the hammer on USC anyways... but I'd love to eat those words.

WTF

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2010/jan ... scenities/

Dozens of students and fans marched into the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex on Tuesday night chanting obscenities at Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, who was informing his players about his departure to Southern California.

The crowd then moved to an office area where an impromptu press conference was being held for Kiffin.

Police were called to quell the crowd, which calmed down once officers arrived.

The crowd eventually became rowdy and were asked to disperse without incident.

Cops ended up tear gassing from what I am seeing on Twitter.

Also allegations of mapquest directions to Lane's house being passed out in the insanity.

So...what was he...like fifth choice...after Riley, Fisher, Del Rio, Sarkisian??

It must have been hard to find a guy whose school is in more trouble with the NCAA than USC.

Still, if I'm Tennessee...I'm pissed.

Right on.

This is almost a no lose for the Doosh.

If the NCAA goes light, he has a cipboard full and all the USC built in feedback loop mojo of college football's sexiesy legacy program. A retard should be able to recruit 5 star after 5 star there. It's tee'd up for him after a down season. Plus, it looks like Chow will come in and do his job for him and he can get the credit and just make his dooshey statements and be a doosh.

If the NCAA comes down hard on him, he has a built-in excuse for at least 5 years no matter his record. He can pull the Shaggy and demand patience.

Clearly this doosh sells snake oil.

Why the fuck are you up so early?

Why is Kiffin so desirable? Fuck if I know, might be that awesome record with Oakland. Or that stellar 1 season with the Vols.

It's funny, USC has an axe hanging above their heads for possible serious NCAA violations, so they hire a guy who had 6 secondary NCAA violations in one year with UT. Yeah..... That's the ticket.

It really sucks for all the kids who bought into Kiffin's bullshit and went to UT.

Not being argumentative, but how do you know this? Based on, what?

Having playcalling responsibilities taken from him at SC?

Inheriting a machine from Chow and flailed and Sarkisian cranked it up again.

Epic failed in Oaktown.

Recruited thugs he let run amok in Knoxville, had a mediocre season, and broke enough rules to leave an investigation and possible sanctions behind after only one year despite all his bluster and bullshit.

Guy's a disaster AFAIC.

Word.

All he is, is a recruiter. While that is obviously key, it that enough toe be a great legacy program HC?

Having Daddy for D and Chow on O will help him there, as well as Mike Garrett with the admin PR. But man, I'm not seeing it. Big thing is it keeps this year's class in place.

Why even sign a contract as a CFB coach? It means nothing at all. Just go with a handshake and a paycheck. It's pretty much all it means for these mercenary coaches.

I wonder what he had to do for Al Davis to get that job in Oakland.

I wonder what he had to do for Al Davis to get that job in Oakland.

The contract is signed in order for the University can get their massive buy out.

So....to me this reeks of desperation by USC. No coach wanted to touch this with pending sactions and they end up with a giant sleeze ball Lane Kiffin. Its probably the best Coaching staff they could assemble under the circumstances, speaking only of football.

Lane see the dream job + ready made superstar Matt barkley and an uber-stocked cupboard left by carroll. Really he has enough there now to weather the storm pretty well.

Fucked up thing is that at THE.....VERY.....MINIMUM, USC football/athletic dept will be on some serious probation, and Lane racked up 6 secondary violations in 12 months over at UT.

And to anyone saying this like this guy or that guy, I challenge ANYONE to find an example of a guy leaving a major university after 1 season of his own volition with THAT MANY dollars involved.....no sir....this is unprecedented.

I cannot WAIT to see how much money they had to throw at lane, his dad, and chow to make this happen. Sooner or later, these situations are going to come to a head and something will be done to stop it. Whether it is a Prohibitive reverse buy-out, unbreakable contracts.....this will not go on forever IMO.

"massive buyout" in this instance = 800K

Two top 10 recruiting classes, bowl appearance and improvement over Fullmer's previous year, the old man's defense, the development of talent at USC, etc.

I'm not holding anything against anyone in regard to Al Davis.

He's bad enough apparently that he's much desired.

I don't like how him and I don't agree with how he went about things in leaving UT, but I believe he can coach and I think he'll be fine at USC when the dust settles.

That's all. Just an opinion.

Qualifications:

Be a doosh.

Have a successful daddy.

Have been a ramora off Pete carrool et al.

Have a mediocre season at a perennially successful SEC program that borders on legacy status.

Recruit thugs for a class rated as it should be. Do a top 10 at Washington State? Now I'm impressed. Do it at SC and UT? Called doing your job pretty well. No big.

Did I mention being a recruiting coordinator for SC, which is probably like being Bernie Madoff's securities' advisor meets being a pro football agent?

Doosh.

Comeuppance in 3...2....1.

Just an opinion. ;-) ;)

I really have nothing. Just think when you keep falling upward that;

1. Someone believes in your abilities
2. You're bound to have success at some point.

I think he'll win.

Maybe, as you seem to believe, it will be because he's set up to.

Maybe it's because he can coach.

Maybe, like pretty much 98% of guys who win, it'll be some of each.

I've been wrong 35 times already today about something. If this is another one it'll be the thing I least care about today.

Now he's lying about not recruiting guys who already commited to UT. Here's a quote from the father of DE recruit Brandon Willis.

"I knew we weren't going to Tennessee, because (Kiffin) was the only reason we were going to Tennessee," said Brandon's father, Gary Willis. "They called and offered him a scholarship to Southern Cal and I told them, 'If I can't trust you at Tennessee, I can't do Southern Cal, because if somebody offered you more money, you would get up and move again.' "

This guy is a lying snake in the grass coward. I hope the NCAA hammers USC like a railroad spike. I hope he fails so bad he can never coach again, not even in Pop Warner leagues.

I also think he looked at the SEC and thought "boy, this is going to be an uphill battle, it's alot easier to go to the Pac 10".

Once again, IMO, 90% of them are the exact same thing. They're fucking snakes CDT.

And any of them in non Top 2% of Jobs in the Profession spots would do exactly what Kiffin did.

No doubt in my mind.

It's how they are and it's what they do.

I wonder if Mike leach and his ready-to-roll staff get a look at UT now?

I hate the "90% rule", I really do. IMO it's a lazy way of thinking.

There are alot of guys who could jump ship, but they don't. It's alot more than 10% too.
