Pitt is scaring Cincy right now. Had a bad feeling either Illlinois or Pitt were going to be the ones who ruin their season.

Cincy losing is a good thing.

No Big East team should ever end up in the top ten. It's an embarrassment to college football.

Cincy is getting destroyed. We'll see what they have for the second half, but it looks like they are a paper tiger. I had a feeling after the Illinois game, but I had not seen them yet.

They are exactly what I thought they were (at first glance). They are a nice team with several very good players that basically carry the load. Pike and Gillyard are excellent the rest of the team feels like a normal Cincy team. I would guess that in a normal year in a good league they would be ~20-25. This year, there seems to be an impetus on ranking based on record due to last year's Utah fiasco. A lot of majors seem to be down this year and that is opening a lot of room due to this year's surprise parity.

Cincy may not be done yet, but you have to like Pitt based on the first half.

Real bad D in the pitt secondary on that one. 68 yards later and Cincy looks better. Three guys within 5 yards and no one was even close to making a play, they will Gillyard the credit, but that is more of an indictment on the Pitt D.

Cincy clawing it's way back.

game's tied up.

I know the Big East is on par with the MAC in terms of football excellence, but damn if this isn't fun to watch.

EDIT: Would Mardy Gilyard be worth a look in the 2nd or 3rd round for the Browns? Or is he more like the poor man's Teddy Ginn?

The defenses are disgusting. Every snap these guys are on their heels on D, always letting the play or player come to them rather than getting aggressive and making a play on their own. And that goes for both sides. Gross football.

The Big East is the diet version of the French 12.

EDIT: BTW, did they play Army/Navy earlier this year? I am shocked it's not on CBS like it normally is today.

Thank god they don't have a chance at playing Florida for the title or else they'd probably be destroyed.

And people make fun of Big 10 football.

Shit. This game is boderline unwatchable. If it weren't for the fact that this determines who plays for the NC, I would have turned it off long ago, Nebraska's ineptness on O is astounding. D is rock solid. Texas looks like a fraud on O. Hard to tell on D, as the Huskers are sooooo bad on O it is downright scary.

Is JoJo in hiding? Or just drunk? Both?

the f-ing BCS.

The one true and pure evil in all of sports.

F-it, clemson lost and texas won (was pulling for TCU so we could finally nuke the BCS)

Great games, just with terrible outcomes. Hey, that's almost a metaphor for College Football and the BCS itself.

Colt MCoy was one second away from making about the biggest mistake I've ever seen in my sporting life. A little more loft and he would've thrown away their season.

By the way Colt, I'd like to introduce you to.... a defense.

A competitor, good player, lotta heart, but Lead's nuts if he's the best player in college football.

And, no, that's not the guy you draft number one.

But there was a guy on that same field you might want to.

What scenario are we talking about if this is the case?

If the BCS never came to be and a playoff occured since say...about 1992ish, I think that it would be incredible and radically different than the current format. TOSU may have about 2-3 (1996, 1998,?) extra National Championship trophy's in the case, Hell, in the early nineties Notre Dame could have been good enough to have done the same thing (not that I like Notre Dame, but they used to be pretty good back then).Maybe the 2006 and 2007 blowout losses never happen?

If you keep the old system? Eh, not so sure. I recall Herm wrote a piece about it, touting that he felt the old way was superior to new one if those rules were still in place. i like the idea from a tradionalist's standpoint and having January 1st mean a lot more than it's been turned into.

If you keep the old system? Eh, not so sure. I recall Herm wrote a piece about it, touting that he felt the old way was superior to new one if those rules were still in place. i like the idea from a tradionalist's standpoint and having January 1st mean a lot more than it's been turned into.

A playoff is a moot point.

Never been close to a playoff.

So, you have the old system, and the BCS. And I know if Richard Nixon were alive and President today, he wouldn't be able to pick a National Champion under the BCS system.

Look, not sure of all the ins and outs that were mentioned in an article, but, I'd have my doubts if reverting back to the old system would eliminate these arguments. Mainly because I lived thru the old system for several years and, well, we had these arguments.

Again, as far as which one is superior, you pickin' Rosie O'Donnel or Roseanne Barr. To my point, what's the difference?

A playoff means TCU, Boise State, and 'Nati get a shot despite not playing in a 'big time' conference like the French 12.

Just to rant more, there's 5 undefeated teams.

2 of them get to play for the title, the other 3 get screwed.

Now, I know Boise, TCU and Cincy all play in terrible conferences, but the fact is they play D-IA ball, they did everything right and went undefeated, and yet don't get to play for a National Championship because some College Presidents don't want to share money with Mid-Majors.

So what do we get? a likely blowout in the National Title game AGAIN, and a couple of meaningless Bowl games which result in the battle for who will be Number 2 in the country. Now, granted I think 'bama would likely slaughter any of those aforementioned teams, but we will never know that for sure.

I also believe it's unfair to the mid-majors not only from a player/coaches standpoint, but they as well don't get a chance to get paid the big bucks like the Major programs do after winning a Nat'l Championship.

Also, Mark May just said that the "'Bama-Texas matchup was the one that America wanted the most"...I've been lurking a couple of fairly diverse (in terms of fans of other teams) message boards and such, and none want this matchup.

For the hell of it, I was curious what the Bowl games would have likely looked like had we kept the old format, but slightly modified (with mid-majors being let in).

Cotton Bowl
January 1st, 12:00 PM, Cowboys Stadium, CBS (going old school)

Texas
V
TCU

Rose Bowl
January 1st, 3:30 PM, Rose Bowl, ABC

THE Ohio State University Buckeyes
V
Oregon

Fiesta Bowl
January 1st, 7:30 PM, University of Phoenix Stadium, FOX

Boise St.
V
Iowa

Sugar Bowl
January 1st, 8:30 PM, Superdome, ABC

Alabama
V
Cincinati

Orange Bowl
January 2nd, 8:00 PM, Landshark Stadium, NBC (again, going old school)

Georgia Tech
V
Florida

That is more than a slight modification. That is like Modifying the BCS into a 16 team playoff.

Exactly. We can some how magically tweak the old inadequate system to make it superior to the current inadequate system, just so we can bitch some more.

The same shit that is happening now, has happened for years. End of story.

And again, a playoff is a pipe dream.

Lastly, welcome back Furls.

Just a great day for watching football.

Happy for UC and the undefeated season, having attended school there. I'm glad that things played out and they WON'T be playing in the BCS Championship game. This team is definitley not ready to be on that stage, if ever. They had to replace 10 defensive starters from last year and it shows. You thought 'Bama had an easy time running over the Gators, imagine that Oline vs UC's D.

'Bama/Fla - Saban just took the Parcells/Mumbles Giants approach and controlled the game in possession time and the run game. They had the ball twice as much as the Gators.

Huskers/Horns- does Daboll moonlight as the Huskers O coordinator? The D however, unbelieveable. McCoy looked frustrated most of the night and how, HOW do you kick the ball out of bounds if your Nebraska?

Clemson/GT - hard to get a feel as I was flipping back and forth w/ the French 12 game.
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

Lastly, welcome back Furls.

My new year's resolution this year is to meet some of you guys at some of Richy's events an dput a face to some names. Of course that requires me to remain on terra firma for more than a couple weeks at a time. I hope to be adding insight to this site that authors in your local fishwrap have not in the very near future.

regards,
Mike
