Lugo On The Tribes Radar

Unread postby swerb » Sun Oct 22, 2006 10:01 am

From "Hey Hoynsie" today ...

http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/plaindea ... xml&coll=2

Q: Hey, Hoynsie: How about the Indians going after Julio Lugo as a second baseman/leadoff hitter? His value had to drop because of his horrible tenure with the Dodgers, but he's still a good player. - Patrick Cork, Vincennes, Ind.

A: Hey, Patrick: Lugo is on the Tribe's radar.

I'd love to see the Tribe target Lugo, despite his struggles with LA after being dealt there.

He has great speed, which the Indians desperately need, and is a pretty good OBP guy. Could easily hit 1 or 2, depending on what the Tribe wants to do with Grady. Can play 2b or SS above average defensively, again, depending on what the Tribe wants to do with Honny. Also has some pop.

Bidding will be stiff though.

Yeah, saw that today.

I like what Lugo brings to the team as far as speed and offense goes......but my big question is the defense. If I recall, he is a butther in the field, no?

i hope the Indians pass....

this franchise doesn't have the best record in converting shortstops to second base.....

of course Lugo never played for the Cubbies, so that might actually help

thing about Lugo is he's worse than Jhonny at short and would be a downgrade defensively at second base

I'd rather sign a guy like Loretta or trade for marcus Giles

Loretta is a vet who can hit .300 and takeover in the number 2 spot

guys like Asdrubal Cabrera and Super Joe would benefit from his tutelage
