Wickman And Byrd Almost Come To Blows

When the 3-hour and 29-minute game ended, Paul Byrd and Wickman argued in the locker room.

They went nose-to-nose for a couple of minutes. Byrd said "Take it off your arm" in a challenging tone. Wickman, whose consecutive save streak ended at 24 when he allowed two runs in the 11th, was icing his right shoulder and arm. Reporters overheard Wickman say, "We can take this outside."

The stare-down ended when Wickman walked into the trainer's room. Byrd went to his locker and then went to a table where several players were eating. He spoke animatedly for a few minutes before leaving the locker room.

"What happened between Paul and me will stay between Paul and me," said Wickman.

One source said Wickman and Byrd do not get along. That seemed clear.

I wish Wickman would have taken one on the jaw, been ok, but had Byrd break his hand!
