How you know AAA is bogus

Unread postby Steve Buffum » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:40 am

From today's Lastoria article:
Triple-A All-Star Game 7/11: First baseman Ryan Mulhern and second baseman Luis Rivas both went hitless in one at bat.

When Luis Rivas is an All-Star in a league, the league smacks of fraudulence.

Now that's being a little rough. Sometimes a guy is productive for a stretch and earns a small reward for it.

A couple of years ago Jake Gautreau looked like a world beater when he arrived from San Diego (for Cory Smith) and he made the All-Star game.

All the more reason why I still feel Double-A is the purest league and the top level of a farm system. Triple-A is more a holdover for major league depth, and for 4A guys holding onto their careers.

Rivas had a couple nice seasons playing 2b for the Twinkies. Not sure what the hell ever really happened to him.
