Huh???? Who is Koronka?

Unread postby MadThinker88 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 12:16 pm

I was getting ready to do a little research and work on the tribe's minor league group and I see a new name on the 40 man roster (per mlb.com) - John Koronka, a lefty bullpen guy.

Has anyone heard news about a move???

I can understand trying to pick up talent from any/ all sources, but am baffled as to 'using' a 40 man spot for him.

Why not? If you need the spot, put him through waivers. If you don't, why not use it?

This guy was on my fantasy team last year. If I saw him in person, I might attack him.

I can understand your point, but I was looking at this move as adding even more names to the list for consideration. At some point, you have to stop adding 'depth' and start making decisions with what you already have.

Not even good enough to pitch for Texas
Basically a bullpen fill-in for Buffalo.
He is a lefty, so he can be awful and somebody will sign him.
One day might make a decent lefty specialist out of the pen
Has been real bad as a starter in Texas
Has always been a starter, has not had a decent year since A ball

The Indians claimed left handed pitcher John Koronka off of waivers from the Rangers. Koronka has started just 2 games this season, and has a 7.84 ERA. In his career, covering 151 innings over 28 starts and 1 relief appearance, the 27-year old Koronka has a 6.02 ERA.

IP W L S ERA WHIP
2005 15.2 1 2 0 7.70 1.78
2006 125.0 7 7 0 5.69 1.54
