Why is Ryan Howard in it?
He isn't an all-star
I don't care that he won it last year
Bull poop.
No Ortiz?
Bonds?
Griffey?

Howard won last year, and you suggest that he sits out because the fans are stupid?

The only reason that there is only Allstars in it is because usually the homerun hitters make the Allstar game.

Btw, since when has anyone given a shit about the Derby?

All I know is I'm trying to watch the MLB.com feed and I'm getting pissed because it keeps buffering and cutting off every few seconds. I'm not on a slow connection either. It's irritating.

I love the HR Derby.
The stadium is packed too.
I like Howard, he's a great player but the All-Stars should be in it.

Alright. I see your logic, I really do. We should leave out the defending MVP, defending derby champ, and the fastest to 100 dingers because he wasn't voted in by the fans.

Makes sense to me.

Grady got asked to be in the home run derby...maybe if he was in it, and Cleveland player in it, you might be more interested. But Grady turned them down. We don't need him hurting himself doing something he isn't really known to do, but something he does a lot, hit a homerun

All I know is my life is richer for having experienced it.
Except for the fact I can no longer hear because I jammed kitchen knives into my hears. I opted for being deaf rather than listening to Chris Berman utter one more word.

But by this rationale we would have been forever robbed of seeing Harold "Baby Jordan" Minor throw one down in the dunk contest.

Yeah lets not invite the HR durby champ from last year not to mention a guy who hit a ball 505 in a game.

Chris Berman should put a sock in it. He's one of the main reasons the show ran 3 hours last night.

They interview ARod & Barry while the hitters are smashing HRs. That's just ridiculous. They should focus on an interview or the derby, not both at once.

Brutal show. Too many commercials, too long, not enough excitement.

Well everyone wanted left handed hitters splashing down one after the other. After all righties made it to the 2nd it lost a lot of excitement.

Vladdy's 503 footer was pretty sweet though.

First, Howard wasn't an All-Star. No getting around that.

Second, if you want to watch that crap and you're going to bring in non All-Stars who can hit a ball a long way, then send out the invite to Russell Branyan and Adam Dunn while you're at it.

Lastly, when all is said and done, who gives a rat's ass?

I think you hit on a point that could significantly improve the HR derby.

Bring in power guys regardless of All Star status, allowing some of the more traditional slugger types that might not hit for average well to give fans what they want, HR's and monumental ones to boot.

Let's face it when watching a HR contest you want as many bombs as possible the more, the longer, the better. One isn't interested in whether the guy is a "complete" hitter or ball player.

I like the thought of a free swinging Branyan type taking part. Seriously it is BP anyway, anyone ever watch Tribe BP at the Jake. You see some serious shots (well I did years ago anyway), and Branyan can send a ball flying with the best of them, in BP that is.

Good call for an otherwise over hyped and worn out concept.

I personally think the home run derby has lost its luster, just as the slam dunk contest has for the NBA.

Plus, with Branyan, you'd have a chance to see the first strikeout in Home Run derby history.
