What a boring game

Good God, lol. 2 baserunners through 4.5 innings and neither one has been ours. What is the deal?

Towers did almost the same thing against the Tigers earlier this season.

Should be is the opportune word there. He did this to the Tigers so he's got it in him. It just rarely ever comes out. Thanks for having it come out against us, Josh.

I have to stop mentioning to anyone about Grady going a few games in a row without striking out. Everytime I do he comes back and has a game with at least 2. But he *has* been doing better with the K's lately. They are coming at not quite such an exponential rate.

Eh well, at least we are still tied at 0 for the time being, lol.

He obviously thought it was inside. It was a great pitch, so if we swung it just would have been a swinging K instead of a looking K.

Both teams act like they got a plane to catch for vacation or something.

Towers usually throws meatballs and gets pounded by the Tribe. Today they look like they forgot how to hit.

It's lucky the Jays aren't doing much with Byrd either.

I bet this game is decided by a dinger.

On the pitch Sizemore struck out on, it was a great pitch. It must've been a 2-seam FB because it started off the plate and ran back in to catch the corner. It was just a perfect pitch, and Grady wouldn't have hit it.

Gibbons is pulling Towers when he's struck out Sizemore twice? Hopefully Grady makes it bite him in the ass.

And Grady is hitting .261 against lefties this year so far.

*come on, Grady... or Casey or Victor, etc.*

Aww, man. Nice try, Grady. Hard to bunt on turf. A little more towards Stairs and that would have worked.

He should steal 2nd so it basically nullifies that that bunt didn't work.

If that gets by Downs that's a base hit. The second baseman was covering first. Depending on how hard it was hit Barfield might have even had an outside shot at 3rd. Not sure if you want to take that chance though.

God dammit, Jhonny. And they have the top of the order. Lovely.

Tigers are kicking the Red Sox again. Which I didn't expect being as how it's Dice-K vs. Robertson.

We need another bullpen arm. Betancourt can't pitch every day, and Wedge doesn't trust anyone else.

The other Raffi works, but I totally agree. Even with Fultz coming back, we need another arm. We have some pretty good trading chips IMO and we should use them.

While, yes the offense wasn't good to put it very lightly... you have to give a lot of credit to that Jays pitcher. He was just plain great today.

Going into the All-Star break at 52-36 is fine by me. It could have been a tiny bit better, yes. As we lost some games like this that we should have won. And we have some glaring holes. But other than that I'm pleased.

Our offense is NOT pathetic. May have looked like it today (and again that is partly because of the pitcher) but they certainly are not pathetic.

love baseball but not a steady diet

Unread postby berardinelli » Sun Jul 08, 2007 5:03 pm

Manning commented that he loved this kind of game... no walks at that point. You know how he (Manning) is about walks. "I could watch these everyday." HE says. I'll take a nice pitcher's dual once in awhile but everyday no way. I should get off this couch go for a bike ride, do anything else, this boring crap will harden your arteries.

Running around all day today. Finally get a chance to turn the Indians game on in the car.

First words I hear Hamilton say:

"A brilliant duel today between Josh Towers and Paul Byrd."

I almost drove my car off the road.

Even funnier? I bet the over 10.5 runs today. First time I've bet an Indians over in at least a month.

Pitching duels between John Lackey and Roger Clemens, CC and Verlander, Webb against Paevy...Those are great to watch.

A bunch of hitters looking disinterested with a couple of guys throwing 85 is not a pitchers duel.

Did I miss the post where we questioned Wedge for pitching to the other team's best hitter with first base open, AGAIN. Some people learn from mistakes. Wedge, not so much.

This has been Betancourt's problem 3 of the 4 years here. That is, he's the only GD guy getting people out so Wedge pitches him 5 days a week. What follows is his velocity drops, numbers go south and than he starts getting hurt.

And, Pup, yes, that was the Jays lone all-star rep that was pitched to with one out and first base empty.

how many others did Wedge hurt

Unread postby berardinelli » Mon Jul 09, 2007 4:29 am

You bring up an interesting point about Wedge. I strongly suspect that Fultz ended up on DL due to Wedge's bullpen mismanagement. He failed to have him warm up early enough in the game he got hurt. He was rushed into the game after throwing only a few pitches because Wedge was once again slow to react. Right after that game Fultz was placed on DL.
After the incredible start of Cabrera, Wedge used him for three scoreless innings and 52 pitches. I suspect arm troubles led to his free fall right after that. He was never stretched out to go that long. When will anyone in Cleveland media call Wedge to task for some of his blunders. Perhaps Manning, Hegan, Hammilton, Hoynes, Oaker all fear limited access or retaliation. They can't be blind to these errors but never mention them.
