07-05-07 afternoon game vs Detroit

Unread postby lovsgrady » Thu Jul 05, 2007 11:01 am

We got C.C. pitching today, hopefully we can get the breaks we missed yesterday and maybe our offense will wake up. Haf seem a little more a wake yesterday. He certainly almost took Rogers head off. If only Guillen hadn't been there to catch the ball. How the heck did he see that rocket. Anyway, so many people think this game is not that important in the standings because it is so up and down right now. Come on people. What is our record against them right now. If we keep beating them, they will try even harder to try and beat us. When people try too hard that means they are thinking too much, and then they might make mistakes. If we keep beating them, especially in their park, it might lower their morale. After yesterdays win we have to lower their self esteem! We need a win tonight so that we go to Toronto and the AS break in high spirits, and Detroit cowering behind us. Every game is important just like every win. You don't want to go to the AS break with a pack of tigers and have lost the last series against them. plus, CC needs the boost for his starting bid. It is the two Central division titans battling it out. Let's not be dethroned from the standings, let's be king :king: (i've just always wanted to use that smiley)

ALL I'M SAYING IS...

I agree 100 percent. This could be a crucial final strecth before the break, as we will see JV today and Halladay in Toronto. We need to win today and then we need NYY to take care of biz (3/4 over a hot Twins team would be a victory for us) and then we need to go slap Toronto around like we're capable of doing.

Yesterday wasn't really that bad...it was a lot of Detroit making some fantastic plays. Plus, I didn't like our odds with Jake, who is awful against Detroit, facing a crafty guy like Rogers. In any event, we could have won the thing.

If CC's on his game today, we will win. If he's off, we get bombarded.

Hopefully a great end to a fantastic series. Pretty tough to call on paper since we both have our aces going. Also love that this is an afternoon game.

he has to start piching better, his control is awful today

he is getting in trouble b/c he isnt throwing first pitch strikes, he is getting behind hitters and you cant do that against the best offense in baseball !

Sheffield goes deep, 7-2 Tigers.

CC can forget about starting the AS Game.

Note to Wedge--I think he's done, get a reliever in there.

I know every pitcher has days like this, but he couldn't have done it against the Devil Rays or something? lol

Well... at least we'll still have a 1 game lead when we leave Detroit tonight. Barring another one of our patented comebacks. I won't count us out yet, but it's not looking good.

All we can do now is hope that we can play well against the Jays and that the Red Sox can handle the Tigers. Even if we just stay one game up in first by the break. I'd take it easily.

CC was just plain horrible today and Verlander looks good. Eh well, it's okay.

We're still up 2+ on them at the break.

We're playing the Pigeons, they're playing the Sox.

Typical?

CC is having an ACE-TYPE SEASON, and now it is TYPICAL?

What about the game last month when the Indians BEAT Verlander and the Tigers? Does that one just go out the window now?

Or how about the game previous to that one, when Sabathia beat Verlander then? Does that one now not matter?

The Indians hit Verlander for 7 runs in May, why aren't we talking about that game?

Why did THIS game suddenly become "more important"? Because of the virtually insignificant All-Star Game?

Quit being so melty!

Awwww...how cute.

I present you with FACTS and TRUTH, and I need to go screw myself. What a surprise.

CC beat the Tigers TWICE already this season WHILE PITCHING AGAINST VERLANDER. This time, he couldn't get it done, didn't have the control, couldn't throw FIRST PITCH STRIKES and lost. It happens. I'm not about to overlook the 11-2 record and the 3.20 ERA.

You are the one overreacting, making the "typical" comment about Sabathia when he's already proven he could beat Verlander TWICE this year. Are you trying to say that the games in May against Detroit meant LESS than the games in July? If CC loses those two games, doesn't the discussion about standings change because then we'd STILL be in 2nd place?

The Tigers are hitting the ball well and none of the pitching has been up to the challenge.

Does it suck? Well sure it does. However, getting all melty like a little girl really is a waste of time.

I'll be looking for a childish response soon enough.

Sucks I know, guess we just have to settle for being in first place while we head off to Toronto, while Detroit goes to Boston, for the final series before the All Star break.

My thoughts on this game...

Every team has a bad game. You can't go through a season and not have a few blow out losses. Just not possible.

I hope they learned from this series. Take the lessons. Apply them against Toronto and win the series against the jays.

It is a long season and we are only half way...

Go Tribe.

Every pitcher has an off game. Verlander had one against us easiler, Clemens had one a while back, Haren sucks sometimes too.

I was just happy I wasn't home to watch it, I did see a tigers fan (he had a shirt) walking down the street in Macedonia of all places, and I just yelled out '*$#@ THE TIGERS!'. Most likely reported the plates of my buddies car.

Also, we didn't need to win this series. Detroit needed to sweep and we needed to NOT be swept, and we pulled it off. We by the Canucks, they play the Sox. Who has the edge going into the break?
