After striking out 4 times, Kelly broke his bat on his leg. On 'Stop The Violence' day at the Jake, no less.

wow i mean who would do that on stop the violence day. i like kelly shoppach, he's a good player but i think that it was unnessasary to brake his bat evn though he struck out four times. :-| :|

I remember someone, maybe Dave Winfield, breaking a bat on a check swing...now that's strength.

I thought that was pretty cool by shopp, even though the way they make bats these days, they're like toothpicks. I also remember Carlos Zambrano doing it a while back.

Albert Belle did it too. I think the bat was cracked and he didn't know it, then on the next pitch it snapped right above his hands.

lol I was surprised by that but I had to laugh. You can't read it in that picture very well but according to articles I read the top of the paper above the locker gives Kelly's new nickname. It reads "Kelly 'Quadzilla' Shoppach."

One of the Indians beat guys, Sheldon or Hoynsie or Castrovince or one of them, said that it was Byrd's idea, as well as a clubhouse assistant.

The picture of the bodybuilder has Kelly's face pasted over the head of the guy in the pic, lol.
