Can we get Grady in the 3 hole THIS year?

Unread postby TribeinLA » Sat Jun 23, 2007 6:45 pm

What do you all think?

He would get some better pitches to hit. The steals would go down. The homers would go up. When you can mash like a gorilla, stealing is for chumps.

Now, how do we go about making him the 3 hitter? Trade hafner?

Have you noticed how badly Crowe has been stuggling this season in AA??
Its been so bad that they have taken Trevor out of leadoff.

I really hope Trevor turns it around and can one day be the Tribe leadoff hitter, but where a year ago I thought it was a matter of time for him to become the leadoff hitter, I think the chance of that is now less than 50-50.

Obviously he's still recovering from the experiment at second base.

I am sure Macphisto is just tired of typing these words, so I will for him:

Tampa Bay is not trading Carl Crawford. They have no reason to. If we were in the tank and needed SP, would you advocate trading Grady Sizemore?

I can dream, can't I?

I seriously think we could make a case for Crawford, though, without having to get rid of Grady.

I didn't mean trade Grady in the Crawford deal, but you may be busting balls here so sorry if you are.

I am sure we could put together a package that would be good enough to acquire a player of Crawford's skill.

I am just saying there is no packae that team would accept for him outside of Adam Miller and Fausto Carmona.

If wew do that, even the consig would turn on Shapiro :P :-P

The scouts that I casually talked to at the Winking Lizard one night said that the only way we get Crawford is to offer Carmona. I tend to think that Adam Miller may be in that realm, also. I would like to keep both. Aside from that, we'd have to offer up "gems" to get someone - a Sizemore or a Victor, according to them.

The lack of production at the corner OF positions looms larger and larger every day. Look at Detroit's compared to ours. Look at all of the other great teams. Boston is the only team I can think of, in first place, that has overall bad corner OF play, thanks in large part to JD Drew (but they have three solid starters and other guys to pick it up). The scouts told me that Franklin G would work his way into a starter's role, which tells me that we're not all that concerned with getting a big name. This was before DD's injury, so now I wonder if our priorities have changed.

I can tell Shapiro's dumb ass one thing: you don't get another blockbuster player and you won't win the AL Central and the WC is also being fought hard for by Oakland, NYY, and the Twins and Mariners.

Sizemore sports the team's highest on base percentage (.399 -- top 25 in all of baseball) and is 22/24 in stolen base attempts (top 5).

Who gives a crap how many times he strikes out?

He's an excellent lead off hitter.

Sizmore is one of the best leadoff guys in the league, so I LOVE having him there to set up our offense. He has the speed and OBP to be effective, but he will hit atleast .290 (slump this year) and will be closer to .305, and he can hit 25-33 HR/year. Sounds like a pretty strong hitter, one who deserves more baserunners. I'm sure he can drive in 120 a year if a guy can hit .290 infront of him. I'd love to move him back one spot and just get someone who can get onbase, so Grady can bat in front of Pronk/Victor to get some more run support, so the 2 or 3 spot.

Something like:

--Leadoff guy,
--guy who can move runners over and get on base(meaning good average and he can BUNT, and a smart hitter)
--Sizemore
--Hafner
--Martinez

That's a pretty strong heart of the lineup.

At the same time Grady, a #2 hitter, Pronk, Victor works out pretty good too. I'd like one more strong hitter, someone who can hit .295 with 30-40 HR to solidify the heart, then keep Sizemore at the leadoff. That's wishful thinking though.

Maybe put Stanford or Byrd and a prospect or two in for a fairly young corner outfielder who is a SOLID HITTER and put im at the 5 and Grady at leadoff.

Sounds good to me.
