Anyone else ready to give him another look-see? Rotation or pen, doesn't matter to me, though as far as I'm concerned, there's 2 rotation spots up for grabs.

I wouldn't mind seeing him. Sowers and Lee sure aren't cutting it.

I doubt we see him at all this year. Westbrook will be back soon and Sowers can go back to Buffalo to tinker with his mechanics or whatever is hindering him. Lee has been off and on but he's shown he can perform.

There's no need to mess with a rotation that is superb thus far....

I think Sowers will be fine, but a couple of Buffalo starts to get his confidence back wouldn't be a bad idea. Based upon merit, Stanford has earned a few starts.

If Westbrook is back soon, I think we can't farm Stanford out again without exposing him to waivers. Is this correct?

Its worth looking into (if called up, would Jason be exposed to waivers to be sent back to Buffalo later).

We probably need Tony to chime in to make sure we are looking at this correctly.

Cliff has the right mental makeup to work himself out of this funk he's in now. He'll be back.

I think the layoff on the DL erased any semblance of command he had. His curveball is at least three notches worse than it was last year, when he was already a mediocre pitcher. I would take league-average at this point. I agree that he has more potential to rebound than Sowers, but since his injury is similar to Westbrook's, and Westbrook's rehab start was truly atrocious, I'm not sure if we should expect Westbrook to slide neatly into the rotation, either.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that rehab start. Simply because he just needs to get out against live hitting again.

Maybe when the next couple of starts he'll focus more on his command and performance.

Yes, that makes sense.

I still want to caution anyone who thinks now that Jake is pitching he'll be able to step in as a #2 within a week should temper their expectations, though.

I'm not ready for this guy, unless Sowers will be called down regardless and Jason gets some starts before Westbrook gets back. With Jake returning and Lee's room for improvement, Stanford is pretty much the odd-man out.

Also, don't forget about Adam Miller. If anyone should be considered for a call-up, starting rotation wise, it would be this guy.

also dont forget abouyt the 40 man roster and also i think that if we promote him he would have to clear waivers in able to be sent down.

The waiver question was something I asked earlier in this thread but don't see a definitive reply.

I "think" he would go through waivers.

If Stanford's contract is purchased from Buffalo and added to the 40-man roster, and he is sent back to Buffalo...he will have to clear waivers. He is out of options.

That said, I still give him a looksee at some point. I keep Perez in the pen for now, but if he struggles, I bring up Stanford as another lefty option for the bullpen. Not sure I start him right now for 1-2 starts since Westbrook is coming back probably in 10 days.

I'm not ready to start helping Stanford pack for Buffalo. I'm not convinced Jake could do any better. Stanford wasn't awful tonight and hes yet to be. I don't know what we do now as far as optioning out (have heard all kinds of suggestions as to who) and who is the 5th starter.

Saw someone mention this AM that Oldberto is more likely to be released.
