Our Old Pal Wedge

Unread postby skatingtripods » Tue May 14, 2013 4:41 pm

Dave Cameron, a Mariners fan, found a great opportunity to blast Eric Wedge for Fangraphs. Figured we could pile on here.

I actually find this rather interesting, since Wedge was pretty obsessed with platoons when he was here.

Oh you are going to absolutely love this one Tripods.

"It's the new generation. It's all this sabermetrics stuff, for lack of a better term, you know what I mean?" Wedge said. "People who haven't played since they were 9 years old think they have it figured out. It gets in these kids' heads."

Ackley's swing rate is well below league average. So maybe he was trying too hard to walk, but his contact rates are well above average. Terrible hitter's park doesn't help.

This is something you didn't have to worry about with Manny Ramirez. He just simply never let Fangraphs and swing rates, contact rates or park factors get too deep in his head.

See ball- hit ball.

Very, very simple concept.

Doesn't appear to be phasing Trout or Harper much either.
