Bourn heading to the DL

I guess it's worse than we first thought

@MLBastian 2m
Francona: Bourn (R. index finger laceration) will go on 15-day DL at some point within next few days

I thought 5-7 days was optimistic when you're looking at stitches. week or so to close up but gotta be another week or two before the laceration really heals and allows for something like swinging a bat.

Sucks because he was hitting it hard and off to a good start.

Going to have to have Kipnis and Cabrera get their heads outta their asses real soon.

At least it's not a terrible time for this shit to be happening.

We all applauded the Indians for accumulating quality depth. Time for it to show itself. This is exactly why they did what they did in the offseason with the Aviles trade, the Gomes trade, the signings of guys like Raburn and Giambi. Should see Giambi get some more PT against RHP with Swisher in RF and Reynolds at 1B.

Lucky it's not broken. Like I said in my series recap piece today, could have been worse if Bourn runs through the bag. Might be talking about a concussion or a knee injury, not just a cut finger.

Going to be funny when Kipnis goes on the DL with serious elbow problems and Bourn is ready to play Friday.

It would appear the reason they're waiting to DL Bourn is to make sure Kazmir is able to go on Saturday.

If not, they can DL Bourn and call up Kluber (avoiding the 10-day rule because of an injury) to start if he's needed.

If Kazmir is able to go, then they can call up a bat to replace Bourn and retroactive the DL move.

Bourn making his first rehab appearance in AAA tonight after yesterday's game was a washout.

He's actually getting to face some ML pitching too as John Danks is on a rehab assignment. So far, 1-for-1 with a BB & SB.

And, at the risk of opening up this can of worms, Matt Laporta has hit his 3rd HR in just his 4th game of the year after missing the start of the season rehabbing from off-season surgery.

Laporta is being groomed to replace all the production we lose when Reynolds walks next year. :hide:
