Six More Years of Verlander

Unread postby skatingtripods » Fri Mar 29, 2013 12:51 pm

Just signed a five-year extension for 5/140. Sixth year is a vesting option at 22M, which I'm sure will vest whatever the terms are. Now on a 7/180 (8/202 contract through 2020.

That's a lot of money.

From 2013-2020: 20, 20, 28, 28, 28, 28, 28, 22 (option).

That's some serious coin!

If he stays healthy though, he's worth it.

I saw that earlier and it is indefensible. I make sure that all of my instruments are sterilized daily.

Andrus just signed a whopper of an extension as well.

An interesting comment was made by the Brewers GM:

"We're becoming like the NBA," says Brewers GM Doug Melvin. "Instead of old-fashioned baseball trades, we're trading contracts. I can see more of these in the future. And that's concerning."
Don't go away mad, just go away.

8/120 to Andrus puts Cabrera somewhere in the 5/60-70 range probably. Three years older, less value defensively and on the basepaths, but Andrus is a below average hitter, while Cabrera is one of the best offensive shortstops.

He was not going to be re-signed anyway with what we have coming up in Lindor and Paulino, but we should get something out of him before he walks.
