Fausto Carmona will be taking his 4-1 record to the bump on Thursday afternoon to face Minnesota. Carmona ended his drought of 15 straight decisions being chalked up in the loss column in an earlier start against the Twins, by going seven and two-third innings allowing only two earned runs. Since that start, Carmona has been as tough to score on as just about any pitcher in the AL. Carmona has won his last four starts, pitching 30 innings and allowing six earned runs.
The Twins will counter with Johan Santana. The Indians touched up Mr. Cy Young for four earned runs over seven innings in his first start of the season against Cleveland. This is the game that Johan decided if he can't get Victor and Pronk out, he might as well bury fastballs into the middle of their backs. Santana is seven and three in his career against the Indians, holding an ERA of 3.21 and 130 strikeouts in just over 123 innings.

They may have to adopt the fastpitch softball rule where you start off with a runner on second base.
Better yet, 2.5th base

Hey, a runner in scoring position (by the Twins)! It only took 'til the fifth to get a player from either team all the way to second base!
(I think: I didn't check thoroughly. But it's that kind of game.)

Rouse's job appears to be to raise Santana's pitch count by stretching out his strikeouts. Of course, with a man on third for the first time, it would have been nicer to punch him home.

Julian Tavarez is effing up a good start against the Tigs.
Edit: Hooray! The anti-hex worked! Got Magglio Ordonez with the bases juiced, Boston still leads 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth.

I can see why Rouse was in now: he only struck out three times in three plate appearances. Jhonny would have struck out at least four.

Man ... that was really bloody awesome. Santana totally dominated us ... and we won, because Fausto was even better. Significantly fewer Ks ... but significantly fewer taters, too.
17:5 GB:FB. Boy, he's somethin' else. (He's not 290, though.)

Carmona and the Tribe are now 2-0 against Santana.
I seem to recall a few people wanting to move Carmona to the bullpen after his first start. The guy is really beginning to look like a front of the rotation starter. His ERA is currently much better than Santana's.
The playoffs are a long, long way off, but I would feel very comfortable with Sabathia, Carmona, and Byrd pitching in the front three slots right now. Carmona has been the best thus far. Nearly a 3:1 GB:FB ratio today. Would be a mistake to send him down when Westbrook is healthy.

Amazing game by Fausto. But I'm not thrilled that Wedge let him throw 122 pitches. I'll dig up the articles later today, but a number of studies have shown an increased risk for (a) injury, and (b) crappy next starts when you get over 105 - 110 pitches.
122 is just dumb.
