Possible changing of the guard for Indians Radio Network

Unread postby T_N_T » Tue Sep 18, 2012 5:01 pm

92.3 WKRK "The Fan" FM and Newsradio WTAM 1100 AM are both attempting to secure the new contract to become the flagship station of the Cleveland Indians Radio Network, WKNR tried to get back in the game so to speak, but apparently gave up on the bid attempt

Anyone out there use WTAM's 50,000 Watt signal at night time to pick up the Indians game from another state? If it goes to WKRK that will be a thing of the past and MLB at bat purchases may go up

Shit. I bought the app and I live in Madison. Better quality and variety.

Hell's bells. There are certain places in STRONGSVILLE where KRK gets stepped on by a nearby FM station. Is there any way in hell they can sell that to Indians management?

If you have a fantasy baseball league that uses CBSSports.com, go to the Live Scoring tab and you can hear all the games from every team's station. If you don't have a fantasy baseball league that uses CBSSports.com, might be worth it to join just for that perk.

As far as moving from the 50K watts of WTAM, I don't think that would be a good move by the Indians. But maybe they aren't worried about how far the signal goes. Maybe they just want the most cash. Seems to me the less people who can get your product, the worse off you are.

Ken Carmen will probably be pissed if 92.3 gets them. There goes his night slot.

At night I am able to listen to WTAM here in New Hampshire. Still sounds clear too, except for on a humid night.

Then why is it that when I drive to Columbus the station goes out on me half way there?

I can get WTAM 1100 when traveling west all the way to Des Moines. When traveling south, I lose it about 30 miles north of Columbus. Can't figure it out either.

I also have trouble getting 92.3 at times out in the southwest 'burbs so hopefully KRK doesn't win these broadcast rights.

From what I understand, WTAM's broadcast transmitter is oriented east-west. This is to take advantage of more populous areas in those directions (Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, even Philley and New York City) and to avoid the big black audience hole that is Canada directly north.

After the sun goes down, it becomes a "clear channel" station in the truest sense as weaker local stations go off the air in all directions. Also, AM radio signals bounce off the atmosphere (as opposed to FM signals, which are line-of-sight), making it easier to pick up WTAM at distant points when the local stations are not on the air to interfere.

Wellllll, camelspit. If the atmospheric conditions are right (and after sundown on Long Island since the 1100 station there goes dark then) I can usually get WTAM up here (Central Ma along the CT border) when we're out in the car. I have MLB Audio for home but I don't want to spend an extra $15 to hear it on my Droid too.

FWIW we've pulled WTAM in as far northeast as Portland, ME, as far south as Sanford, FL (static-y but we could make out words OK), to west of the Mississippi somewhere in the AK/OK/TX area, and the Kansas/Denver area along I-70. From the sounds of it some of you in Cleveland have trouble getting "The Fan" even if you're downwind. Sounds like a lose for us/win for Dolans, so they'll probably do it.

"38 states and half of Canada"

If KRK gets Jim Rome and the Tribe, maybe Ken Carmen can get a real time slot (before or after Rome), and the station can put an end to Amateur Hour.
