If I am not mistaken, the PTBNL will be announced by next Sunday. Indians pretty much have a week to scout the guys on the list they agreed upon and will select one of those players. With many teams involved, it could be a decent player in return, although someone in Single-A with upside.

Does anyone know for sure the rules regarding drafted players, in particular when they are able to be dealt???

I read where some say a drafted player (if signed) can't be dealt until they have been with the organization for 1 calendar yr. I have no idea if that is accurate or not.

Until the actual player is named in the Davis deal, I plan to look through some Mariner prospects and speculate on who it might be.

Yes, that's the Incaviglia Rule. MLB made the rule to prevent what happened in the NFL with Eli Manning and Philip Rivers (well they put it in after Elway did it first).

Thanks for the confirmation of that rule.

Personally, I find it outdated and don't doubt it will get yanked in the next 5 years (since they are going to start showing the draft on tv).

Tribe acquires teen hurler in Davis deal
Cleveland lands Rosario to complete trade with Seattle
By David Briggs / MLB.com

CLEVELAND -- A youthful, low-level prospect with a "deep projection." That's the kind of player Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said the Jason Davis trade would bring in.
He sure wasn't kidding.

The Indians announced on Thursday that the team acquired 18-year-old pitcher Gregorio Rosario, a Domincan teen signed three years ago by the Mariners, in completing the May 13 trade that shipped Davis to Seattle.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed Rosario spent the last two seasons pitching for Seattle's Dominican Summer League team, where he went a combined 11-4 with a 3.01 ERA over 23 starts.

Rosario has yet to pitch in the Minor Leagues, but he's made the trip to the U.S. this year. He was pitching in extended Spring Training at Seattle's Peoria, Ariz., complex before the trade was completed.

Where the Indians will send him was not immediately known.

Nah. Unless you are talking about a Ramon Vazquez type.

Davis isn't worth much as far as major league ready players go, so you either take AAAA garbage like Vazquez in return for Davis, or you take a longshot on a projectionable player. I din't expect THIS much of a longshot, but I like it a ton more than some 4A player.

One other thing to remember, getting a lower level prospect means he most likely won't need to be to the 40 man roster for a couple of seasons.

Getting Davis outta here means the 40 man currently only has 38 people on it. Come the end of this season, Shapiro and crew are really going to earn their salaries trying to decide who gets dropped from and who gets added to the 40 man roster.

Here is a short list of names that will need to be added or be exposed in the Rule 5 draft in Dec 2007:
Adam Miller
Astrubal Cabrera
Wyatt Toregas
Max Ramirez
Tony Sipp
Scott Lewis
Sean Smith
Aaron Laffey
