No way.

Completely different circumstances.

The Colon deal was centered around getting several prospects with upside to build the team around 2-3 years down the road. Winning was not the goal, building and evaluating was.

Now, winning IS the goal. Trading CC for prospects is a BIG step back. The Indians should not be trading away some of their good talent for prospects. If anything, they should be using their full stable of prospects as currency to get major league ready players here.

I'm fine with dumping middle-of-the-road guys like Davis, Blake, Delluci, Byrd, etc for prospects, as that might be all you can get and the removal of them provides opportunities for players behind them who could maybe perform.

This is the Colon situation, just not till next year. There is no way they can pay CC the cash he will command. If he is not traded by the All-Star break next year, it will be a mistake.

The Indians cannot keep both CC and Hafner.

Kiss him goodbye

CC most likely IS gone. But, again, this is not the Colon situation where you are looking to get prospects in return. I agree it is the same situation with a lingering FA looming.....but the difference here is CC should bring back major league talent in return. If they trade him, they better be getting at least two good young players on another team.

Rack consig

CC is worth a lot, but as next year's AS break approaches his value will decrease. I am not saying that they should trade him today, but realistically, I have no hopes of resigning him in FA for 20mill per year.

What is better? Losing CC to FA for nothing or getting something? I am pretty sure that will rely on next year's outlook as well as this year's outcome.
Coming from a Wolverine, we're the football equivalent of a formerly abused wife of a meth addict who just remarried the safe nice guy. We're just glad we have someone who's aware that it's a rivalry and that tackling on defense is integral. Baby steps.
