Team average: .261 (7th in AL)
Team ERA: 4.30 (7th in AL)
Team defense: .977 fielding% (13th in AL)
Pretty mediocre stats all the way around. yet we are 19-10, 2nd best record in league.
But, if you look deeper, the offense has been more effective than people who just glance at the batting average give credit. Indians are 3rd in the AL in OBP (.355) and 3rd in OPS (.777).
Also, with the pitching, the starter's ERA is 4.78 (9th in AL) and they have a .283 BAA (11 in AL)....but they also have 19 quality starts good for 1st in the league. The bullpen ERA is 3.83 (5th in AL) and they have a .238 BAA (7th in AL) but a whopping 89 strikeouts (2nd in AL) in only 91.2 IP (8th in AL). Also, as a team the Indians are #1 in least amount of walks given up (85). The AL average for walks is 103.
With the defense, we have 24 total errors (3rd in AL).
Just interesting to look at all the numbers, and how when you look at them how this team is actually over-performing based on the production to date. Definitely the Indians have been paced by the pitching overall not walking guys, the starters providing quality starts, the bullpen pounding the strikezone, and the offense getting on base.
