Cleveland Indians at Baltimore Orioles

Monday May 7th, 12:35pm first pitch.

Pitching matchup: Fausto Carmona (RHP, 2-1, 3.76 ERA) vs. Steve Trachsel (RHP, 1-3, 4.08 ERA)

Note: Trachsel pitched against the Indians last weekend, going 5.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks and struckout 3.

anyway it would be nice to see Fausto come out and go seven but I see some potential trouble here. He will either cruise or have trouble because this is a travel day for each team. I hope the Indians realize how important it is to split the series and end the Baltimore span with a couple of quality wins.
I only see trouble with Carmona becayse he just faced Baltimore last Sunday. It's always hard to dominate a team the second time out, especially for a young pitcher. I just hope that he can locate his fastball and that Baltimore is ready to travel and take the game off (like Cleveland did Saturday)

Important game that can give us a split in the four-gamer; I'll take that with the 0-2 start.

I didn't look ahead on the schedule and was surprised to see the 12:35P start on a Monday. Is it a bank holiday or something?

Yeah, I'm not usually around much on the weekend, especially now that the weather is turning and yardwork is required and I can play outside with the kids. I think we'll see a pattern where the game threads get most activity during the weekdays, particularly Tues-Thurs.

Anyway, as I mentioned previously, anytime someone wants to start up a game thread, feel free to do so. Put a "sticky" on it so it sticks at the top of the page and the next morning me or Rich will take the sticky off.

It's time for Grady to get going with the bat. He's much too good of a hitter to be in the .220-.240 range deep into May.

Carmona looks great so far. Nine groundball outs and three infield hits on shattered bats. Orioles tie it up here in the 5th after two infield hits and a good piece of hitting by Payton.

Why do career stiffs like Payton and wastes of great talent like Corey Patterson always victimize us? We also have that problem with backup, soft hitting catchers.

I was going to post about how great Carmona was looking (relatively speaking, since I'm "watching" the game through game tracker-this is the first time I've done this, I have to say I'm impressed), but then I decided against it cause I didn't want to jinx him. Looks like Consig took care of that for me.

17 extra pitches and a run occured after the error on Barfield. For those who can actually see the game, was it a tough play?

Wow, Sizemore yesterday....Peralta today. Peralta with a helluva play to rob Huff of a hit up the middle and throw him out at 1B. Kept the run at 3B from scoring.

On Barfield.

I hate Blake. Though I have his HR ball from 6/7/06 on my dresser at home. Bounced off the back wall on the porch near the bleacher gate right to me.

How is there a passed ball that allows Nixon to advance from 1st to 2nd but not Hafner from 3rd to home?

Was the play at the plate close?

On the passed ball...easy, if the ball bounces 4-5 feet away, usually the runner at 1st can get to 2nd easily since the catcher has to make a throw of roughly 105 feet. But, the runner at third can't come home because it is a 10-20 foot throw for the catcher to the pitcher covering home. Ball didn't get away enough for Hafner.

On Hafner tagging, the ball beat him home but he was safe according to Hammy. Still, have to wonder why he was running there.....guess trying to force in a run because really Markaikis (sp) needs to make a good throw there (which he did).

The play was like Willie Mays Hayes trying to steal his first base in Spring Training. It was painful to watch. The ball was at the plate decades before Hafner attempted a pathetic slide at the plate. It was stupid to run him, especially with one more out left. I just wish Hafner could have channelled Pete Rose and gone all Ray Fosse on the catcher.

I'm watching the Baltimore feed. Flyball to right was medium distance. Anyone but Hafner would've been safe. But he tried to barrel into Bako, instead of going right and touching HP with his lefthand.

big hit for Sizemore right there.. I missed a few innings cuz I had class from 2-3 but I was glad to see Carmona got out of that bases loaded jam with Patterson up

Interesting that they walk Casey (struggling) to load them for Travis.
