Indians discussing contract with Mike Cameron

I'd be happy if this was 2006 but Cameron is old and was never a guy who hit for AVG or got on base at a consistently impressive rate when he was in his prime. On the other hand he's a great defender and wonderful character in any clubhouse. However I don't believe he's a better alternative to Zeke or even Pie for the vacant OF spot.

I hope we move on quickly

Wish we'd offer Manny an incentive laden contract

I don't care about his 'baggage' I just want a pure hitter

Ca

Ryst.

Babe Ruth was good once upon a time, why not sign him?

And before any Tribe honks get defensive, I do realize it's not that big a deal. Just will never understand what the purpose of signing a guy that stinks is.

He's CLEARLY done. Been done. Obviously done.

Shit like this makes me wonder if everyone there knows what the hell is going on? I mean, I can understand me pleading for a guy like "Kuip" to watch the games, shouldn't have to ask the same to someone in a MLB front office.

Yea, maybe his bat will speed back up this year ayeayeayeaye.....

and I'll ask to save in advance the old "what can it hurt incentive laden contract...." line. There is no good reason for signing a bad player.

None.

Soooo many better places to gamble.

If this is a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite, whatever. We've milked every last drop out of guys before.

Except that Cameron's last drop oozed out three years ago.

I hate hate HATE these kinds of deals. There's no point in milking a dead cow. You're better off playing a guy like this Cunningham kid we picked up. At least he has upside, even if it isn't much.

We've gone beyond dumpster diving at this point if we're seriously negotiating with a guy like Cameron. And for God's sake, how is it even a negotiation?

Antonetti: Mike, would you like to play baseball this year, or stay home and unemployed?

Cameron: Gosh, I don't know. Can I get back to you on that?

Antonetti:How would you like to play for the Indians this year?
Cameron:Gee, I don't know...
Antonetti:What do you mean, you don't know? This is your chance to remain in the big leagues.
Cameron:Let me get back to you, will ya, Chris? I got a guy on the other line asking about some white walls.

...and we get beat out by the Nationals. Maybe he wants to mentor Bryce Harper.

Casey Candaele is next on the list.

One day I'd like to do some research and see if the same people who are fine with guys like Cameron ever criticized Casey Blake and/or Jamey Carroll.

Quit trying to fool everyone. We all know you have a personal black list of anyone who ever criticized Jamey Carroll.

Why not go after Casey Blake? :hide:
"It's all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that," he said. "But at the same time I've given myself options to this point, and like I said before, me and my team, we have a game plan that we're going to execute, and we'll see what we get."

"We had a great time together."

Probably not worth a new thread but I think I just heard we signed Andy LaRoche to a minor league deal. We're building a dynasty in Columbus.
