What Eck did by going from good starter to elite closer (one of the best ever) was in and of itself impressive, but Smoltz went from great starter to elite closer back to great starter.

How many more years does he have and what does he need to get in the hall?

He'll get 200 this year maybe even 212, 213. Does he need 250?

With 220, 150+ saves and an ERA lower then Eck's I think he has to get in .
