Hey guys, I just wanted to see if anyone wanted to participate in one more game thread this year. I know that they Tribe is out of it and not many people have been paying attention, but I thought it would be fun if everyone got involved in one more game thread for the last game of the season on Wednesday. This has been a season of ups and downs and I think that we should end it the right way. Who's with me?!?!?!?!?!

I'd be in. I don't post all that much but I do enjoy comments from people who are actually watching the game (I listen on-line). I'm thinking though that you might have to send this out as a PM to the regular posters since most of them have probably moved on to other sports. I'll pay attention to the others but I follow the Tribe closely (or as close as a girl can follow...

).
I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.~~~Annie Savoy-"Bull Durham"

No idea how to explain or what to think of Jeanmar Gomez. His stuff is average, he gets no swings and misses and yest he could end up 5-0 with a sub 2.oo era in the last month.
Is this the gork or was the early part of the year the gork.
Given what I've seen of the guy I'm still not sold THIS isn't the gork.

Or Jeremy Sowers's end of 2006.
Or Anthony Reyes's end of 2008.

Yeah.. I do.
That's what I mean.
It's an odd run of numbers though. Ones that people see are great. How he got there is .... blah.

As long as he helps the team win games, it doesn't really matter to me, really. People thought Tomlin would eventually fade. Who knows what will happen next year, but the kid pitched well for most of the season.
I like the fact that Gomez is only 23 and was able to pitch effectively in his second time around with the big club after getting tattooed in the first go around. He could be a sleeper for the 5th slot next year. He's sure as hell pitched better than Huff down the stretch. I'm ready to close the door on him as being Aaron Laffey II.
Don't go away mad, just go away.

Gomez's opponents in September:
White Sox
Twins
White Sox
Royals
It's the opposition moreso than the pitcher.
People thought Tomlin would eventually fade.
He did.... badly. ERA by month:
April: 2.45
May: 3.03
June: 5.84
July: 4.50
August: 5.28
I'm still not sold on Tomlin. Yeah he ate up innings and he's a gamer with a tremendous walk rate, 1.14/9 inn which was actually the best in the majors, but his strikeout rate was the 6th worst in the majors at 4.84/9 inn. I'd love it if he could improve next year but he may be due for a regression with the league figuring out as the year went along that he's going to give them something to hit, and that his BABIP is also in the lower range at .255 for the season. I really like Tomlin but I'm afraid he might not last the entire next season in the MLB rotation.
Fuck the Browns...

Not really all that surprising that a flyball pitcher like him saw an inflation of his ERA during the warmer summer months. His HR numbers didn't really jump, but lazy fly balls become doubles and whatnot.
His splits are the most telling: 3.58 at home, 4.92 on road. 5.60/1.39/.305 day ERA/WHIP/BAA, 3.88/.99/.231 night.
Not to mention, we don't know how long he was hurt for.
There's bound to be regression with a guy who doesn't strike people out, but he also doesn't hurt himself with walks. He's an above average fourth/fifth starter IMO.

There's that too. Though I'd argue the White Sox can hurt you if you're not careful (see Fausto)

Don't worry, LaPorta shouldn't make the roster next year.
