Matt Miller is going to start a rehab assignment, and when he’s ready, will in all likelihood be added to the major-league roster. The team isn’t going to go with 13 pitchers, so pretty much one reliever will need to be moved off the roster. The front office took the Path of No Resisitance in sending Carmona down to bring Lee up: I expect them to do the same here. Mastny has an option. No one else does. QED.

Something else to consider here.....

I think every pitch Matt Miller throws could be his last, therefore get all of them to be useful at the major league level.

Sorry Buff, but if the only option is to send Mastny down, let him go down there, stay sharp and be ready to go balls to the wall once Miller goes "sproing"!

Well done again Buff. I enjoy reading your articles very much.

I'm just not sold on Mastny. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Miller out there, especially because of Fultz's troubles with left handed hitters lately.

That said, it's a numbers game. And when there are options with players, that's the way it has to be. I'll still hold out hope for a trade that gets us a better left handed option than Fultz or Miller.

This was a classic excerpt today Buff.

Jhonny Peralta grounded into a double play on the first pitch in the second inning. This is almost unfathomably bad, as the one skill Burnett lacks is the ability to throw the ball where he wants it to go on a regular basis. If you’re going to swing at the first pitch, that better be one heckuva grooved pitch. Grounding into a double play suggests that it was not.

To atone for this, Peralta came up the next innings with Trot Nixon on second and Ryan Garko on first. Showing otherworldly patience, he waited until the second pitch to blast a ball over Wells’ head in center to drive in both runs.

I didn't realize that Mastny was as effective against lefties. Only hitting .184 over the last two years.

I don't think Miller will ever be consistently healthy again.

Steve, I just want to say, THANK YOU for the BList. As an out of towner that often feels like Im missing out on the local vibe, the column really keeps me in tune with the team.

I can't believe I'm the one that is going to type this but here it goes anyway: Why send out Mastny when he has been more effective and able to handle more roles then Jason Davis??

Maybe its time to start shopping JD and one of the surplus outfielders for lower minor league bodies.

At least we start clearing space on the 40 man to accomodate the likes of Adam Miller etc.

That was one of my favorites, though this one was my fave:

Being the nerd that I am, this made me absolutely crack up. I've always dug configuring electrons and the smallness of it all. One of the greatest statements I've ever seen admitting a thorough lack of knowledge.

Physics and chemistry references are always appreciated (at least by me).
