500 HR's: Have 4 guys reached that mark in the same year?

B/C 4 will probably do it this year.

Thomas, Thome, ARod and Manny.

IMO that is all Thomas is playing for right now, I expect to see him retire after this season with 500+ HR's. The others all have 100 more in them IMO.

There have never been more than two players passing 500HRs in a single season.

Mantle and Matthews in 1967.
Robinson and Killebrew in 1971.
Sosa and Palmeiro in 2003.

I never really noticed, but you're right. All four of those guys look like the should go over this year. A-Rod probably was the shakiest going into the season because he needed 36, but he generally hits more than that every year. His total last year would have been the only thing that caused concern, but his torrid start almost assures that he'll hit at least 40 this year.

Four men entering the 500 Club and one downing Hank Aaron's record. Couple that with the parity we see now in baseball and we're in for one hell of a ride this year.
