Forgot to mention: Hafner at first

I assume that it was because it was a day game with an off day, in case the elbow barked, but I thought it was interesting that Hafner was the first-baseman yesterday and not the DH.

He actually looked acceptible on the highlight I saw (3-1 groundout). And word on the decision anywhere?

That's about it. No discussion as to why Hafner started. They've had other times where he could have played prior to a day off. Maybe he just felt like his elbow was up to it.

I don't expect to see him much at 1B. It'd be nice and he's competent there - really no better or worse than all the other guys we could put there. Blake is probably a bit ahead of everyone on defense, but I think Garko, Martinez, Blake, and Hafner can all get the job done.

The speculation on another board is:

1) Wedge said he wanted to get Hafner a game a week at first. I don't remember that, FWIW.

2) Wedge wanted all four of (lefties) Choo, Nixon, Dellucci, and Hafner in the lineup.

Was definitely mentioned, because a lot of people were confused about why this year? Showing he can play first might bring the NL into the bidding. We know he couldn't do it 150 times, so it wasn't really a big concern, but it was in the news.

That had to be someone else's idea. Makes too much sense for Wedge.

It does seem like the reason though, as that's what I was thinking watching the game.

I thought part of the reason to get Hafner a game a week at 1B was to get him ready for the interleague games at NL ballparks.
