It's been weeks since Carmona has hit the right side of home plate.
Period.
All you need to know. All the talk about turning it around, if he's worth the option, walking this hitter or that hitter.......all that shit is moot until he can do this. Cause if he's unable to the answer is NO to everything.
The guys trademark was that he could make guys uncomfortable with his movement. Now left-handers stroll up there without a care in the world. They either take the pitch a foot outside, or get great extension on the ball out over the plate. For them, there are no other options. This is why a guy, like Giambi, several years (and drugs) past his bat speed, can still jump out of his shoes over home plate and crush taters against him.
At the end of the day clubs are going up there KNOWING they can get there pitch. His lack of command has trivialized his "stuff." And yes, if there was a starting pitcher in the league that was an odds on favorite to walk the other teams 9 man, whomever it may be, it's him.
And this is not news. Command, or rather lack thereof has ben his problem for YEARS now. As a rule YEARS of KNOWING the issue and being unable to reckon with it.....can't see how in the wide world of sports he'll ever be consistently good. Pray for a hot month and move him to an all day sucker.
