$11M club option for next year. That's a lot of coin for a guy who's slugging percentage has dipped below .400 at this point. He's a nice player, no doubt, but has he hit his peak as an offensive player? Hard to believe he'll be 30 already.

Yea BP has already peaked. Hes fortunate he played in Cincy during his prime, as those power numbers don't translate to most parks. Still wish Wedgie didnt give him away. Him and Droobs would be a helluva MIF.

Man, agree it's hard to believe he's 30.

He will get a big contract somewhere. He can hit, and his fielding is top-shelf.
He's hit all over the order for the Reds- wonder if hitting eg. leadoff helped to keep the slugging % down.
Whenever I see him play, he hits the ball HARD.

OTOH, wonder if the other guys hitting around Phillips in the Reds' order helps him to see good pitches to hit...?

He plays very good D and can steal bases, he has never been that great or that smart of a hitter. He has benefited greatly from that park and lineup.

He may be able to stay good for another couple of years but there is not much upside only decline left.

That being said he is a good guy. very funny, im sure anybody that has ever attended a minor league game that Phillips has been a part of would agree

Would we have use for him if we had the dough? I wish we could have him for 1-2 years just out of frustration when he wouldn't pass Wedge's Grinder test. I saw a game in Arlington, TX back in 2003 when we were awful and he, Bradley, Jody Gerut, Lawton, Hafner, Vizquel, Blake, Einar, and I wanna say Lee Stevens ate up the Rangers. CC was on the hill that night. Quite an interesting lineup.
