Kipnis has a bright future, I think, but it is highly unlikely he will make much of an impact at first. Like it or not, I think we are pretty much stuck with what we have and have to hope that the guys we are counting on remember how to hit.

It's a funk. We've seen they play great, now they are playing awful. Lets try and even out against Detroit. Splitting the series would be a win.

Like I said, I think it's more along the lines of tinkering with the lineup than making another prospect move. But if Kearns/Everett/OC get DFA'd, you won't see any tears in my eyes.
Did you go to the Kinston game yesterday? If so, did you stay for all 23 innings???

Hi..yes, I was there and stayed the entire 23 innings! Had it been a night game, no way I would have lasted, but the game started at 1:30 and ended around 7:45. Only a handful of us were there at the end..and we received cardboard plaques that read "I was part of the longest game in Carolina League history".
What an amazing game. Bo Greenwell, outfielder, took a ball off his hand while batting in the first and had to leave the game, putting the only reserve OF in the game for Kinston, Delvi Cid. Somewhere around 11th, Myrtle Beach put their DH into the game defensively, which forced their pitch to bat, as it turned out, several times. I think in the 13th, another Kinston OF, Tyler Holt, was ejected from the game, but it wasn't clear to me why. That forced Doug Pickens into LF, and he normally catches or plays 1B. We loaded the bases with none out in the 22nd, but couldn't score. In the top of the 23rd, Cid caught a fly ball for the 3rd out, but came up limping and had to be carried off the field...and I think he was the last position player available. Had the game gone to 24 innings, one of the starting pitchers would have had to come in and play. But, with C Roberto Perez on 3rd, and two out in the 23rd, Casey Frawley hit a shot just by the Myrtle Beach third baseman to end the game!
Thanks for asking.

I do wonder if the trick up the sleeve is more along the lines of Nick Johnson, who i believe has to be added to the roster by july 1if we want to keep him.

Well, as far as in clutch situations, yes. Grady never really was great in the clutch, even in his All-Star years. Which is why I was kinda like "errrr" when he was put in the 3-hole. I pretty much knew that wouldn't end well. Had to try though. But I wouldn't exactly say he's got his head up his ass. Though I admit the last 6 games haven't been great.
June #'s - .250/.386/.389 Sure, .250 average isn't great but a .386 OBP is. Also, his BB/K in June is 6/13 as opposed to 1/17 in May. So he's getting on base now and looks to be getting at least some plate discipline back. Which may lead to the average going up. Again, he's just not exactly clutch in knocking in the guys on base in front of him, never was. Therefore maybe moving him back to leadoff will work since he's getting on base at a much better clip than before. Leaving the guys who have been a bit better in the clutch (Brantley and Droobs) a chance to drive him in.
Choo is just a mess in general. June #'s - .158/.238/.211 There's nothing good in any of that.
I know everyone will look at ME posting this as "typical" since he's my favorite player. But, all bias aside, looking at the #'s it's not fair to lump him in with Choo. Also taking into consideration that he probably wasn't exactly 100% when coming off the DL the 2nd time.

Ignoring this for a moment; have you watched Choo play OF this year? If so, do you believe his defense has been "stellar" and that he's one of the top defensive OF in baseball this year?

Stellar wasn't the right word to use. Got ahead of myself there, just because he's 2nd in RF doesn't mean he's been playing amazing defense. But, he hasn't been bad by any means.
I will admit living in NY makes it hard for me to watch every game, but I work in a bar so I can usually catch most of the games.
