6/8/11 Tribe vs Twinkies Rubber Match - Get A Win!

Unread postby Am I Here Again? » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:51 am

As suggested by other posters I'll start today's thread since we won last night on my maiden attempt. Fair warning, though: No matter what happens today I will not be available to start Friday's thread unless you want it early (before 2:30PM).

Minnesota @ Cleveland, 12:05.

Twinkies:

Revere, B, CF .276
Casilla, A, SS .248
Morneau, J, DH .229
Young, D, LF .225
Valencia, D, 3B
Hughes, L, 1B .247
Tolbert, M, 2B .208
Butera, D, C

Pitching: Carl Pavano (2011 season: 3-5, 4.83 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 30 Ks)

Tribe:

Brantley, M, LF
Cabrera, A, SS .307
Sizemore, G, CF
Santana, C, 1B .227
Choo, S, RF .241
LaPorta, M, DH .246
Phelps, C, 2B -
Hannahan, J, 3B
Marson, L, C

Pitching: Justin Masterson (2011 season: 5-4, 3.28 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 58 Ks)

Masterson hasn't had a win since April 26th. A few runs put up by his teammates wouldn't hurt. Go Tribe!

I was kind of hoping we would see OCab's 2000th hit at home. Oh well. Bring on Cord!

This. The Indians organization has really been poor with this. There's only a small blurb underneath his name during his first plate appearance. I know he's only been with us two months, but it's a celebration of his career. 2000 hits is a big deal. Not as big as the other milestones, but it's still a big deal.

I can't believe the Indians haven't put up a scoreboard countdown or hung one from the parking garage walkways or something.

Pretty disgusted by it, quite frankly. Like I said, it's about respect for his longevity, not ignoring it because only 50 or so of the 2000 are as an Indian.

I love you Adam, but show me another team that has hung a countdown to 2000 hits or 300 HR or some other insignificant milestone in their stadium. It just isn't done. It's not about disrespect to OC, it's the fact that no one really cares about the countdown to 2000 hits.

I've seen 3000 hits, I've seen 500 HR, 745 HR etc, but never for something like 2000 hits.

Well, I find that wrong. It's not even mentioned on the scoreboard.

My fiance hung numbers from the railing on the Home Run Porch last Saturday, fully secured, and a supervisor came over and told us that we had to take it down because "it might be shown on TV".

16 active players with over 2000 hits. 5 or 6 will get it this year.

I think it's pretty significant. Guess I'm wrong.

I think it should be mentioned and he should get a standing O from the crowd when it happened. I just can't recall any team doing a formal "countdown" to 2000 hits.

I'm not saying some enormous countdown with 10'x 12' numbers or something. Just something nice for the guy.

On another note, at what point will teams stop playing Brantley in at 3B for the potential bunt.

Hit and run had the reverse effect.

Forced Cabrera to swing at a ball at his ankles

I like the new lineup. It'd look a ton better with Pronk in there.

And Marson catching Bat Masterson is great. He's a full point lower ERA with Lou behind the dish. Maybe cause he know we'll score less runs. ;-) ;)

Wasn't it a full count? Can't say it forced Cabrera to expand the zone. Protect mode did.

Couldn't see it, but Choo going oppo up the alley is exciting.

Too bad LaPopup's up.

Cord might get an RBI chance here.

If Phelps hits a dinger, people will lose their minds.

If LaPorta is your DH, that also says a lot about your roster.

To be fair it was a good pitch to hit, he just didn't hit it well.

Nice to see someone swing at a good first pitch. Our guys (O-Cab excluded) seem to take the first pitch no matter what.

Shin-Soo Choo went 17 days in between XBH. In a year of ugly stats for him, 17 days without a XBH is one of the ugliest.

1) Remember when we all forgot that Jack Hannahan was Jack Hannahan?

2) If Marson could hit .250, I'd make him the everyday catcher and move Santana to 1B. But he can't.

3) Brantley has firmly taken over the leadoff spot from Grady. Good work.

This team has two good hitters, the a bunch of monkey turds.

Out of 14 position players, we only have 4 hitting about .250, and Sizemore and Buck are hovering at .250

I assume I could leave off his 30.7% K%.

Oh, and he's walked 5 times in 126 PA.

He's simply not a good hitter right now.

Which, of course, why he's batting 3rd for us.

Why pitch to Morneau with 1B open? Stupid.

1. Masterson is a sinkerballer.

2. Morneau is one of the great low ball hitters of the last decade.

3. Delmon Young was on deck.
