5/27 Tribe @ Rays - Acta shuffles lineup, Sizemore is back

Unread postby cozmeesah » Fri May 27, 2011 3:42 pm

Manny shuffles the lineup finally. We'll see how this works.

Brantley CF
O. Cabrera 2B
A. Cabrera SS
Duncan LF
LaPorta 1B
Sizemore DH
Santana C
Kearns RF
Hannahan 3B

Tomlin P

Rays lineup to come.

Now that is a lineup I can get on board with until Pronk is back.

I really liked the Brantley-A-Cab combo at the top of the lineup though.
Reminded me of Omar and Robbie as they were always on base as well.
But A-Cab is our best bat at the moment and we need a guy who can get runs home batting third.

I think Grady and LaPorta should switch places however. Grady protecting Sloth will make the pitchers throw Duncan more agreeable pitches compared to LaPorta protecting Shelley

I like the new lineup. Biggest change is Carlos out of that 4 hole and therefor will stop killing 1st inning rallies. Good to see Manny make necessary changes.

Edit: Why not give LaPorta a shot at cleanup? He has just as much power as sloth does.

I'm OK with this lineup as long as its only against lefties. OCab does not deserve to be in the lineup against righties let alone batting in the 2 spot.

Where did get the lineup from??

Eh. Not in love with that lineup. I like Brantley at leadoff, that's about it. Ascab is having a great year, but I don't know that he's our #3 hitter. Don't like seeing Grady so low in the lineup. There's just something about seeing Duncan in the cleanup spot that gives me an impending sense of doom.

I'd imagine that Grady is so low tonight only because David Price is on the bump for the Rays. I definitely don't want him in a higher RBI spot against a LHP that will probably make him look silly.

I'm curious to see tomorrow's lineup against RHP Shields now.

I'm surprised Grady got the start tonight against Price. I suppose it had to be done in order to let Choo get the night off and still have a decent lineup.

I would've wanted to see Laporta and Duncan switched, or Laporta-Sizemore-Duncan, but that's just nitpicking.

Keeping Sizemore healthy (by not needing to be as aggressive on the basepaths) will be a solid pretext for keeping in the middle of the order long-term.

Interesting. Tough matchup with Price regardless of how the lineup shakes out. Also, for what it's worth (nothing to Ciammaichella), OCab's hitting 15 points higher in the 2 hole for his career than any other spot in the lineup. (cue sample size discussion)

Laporta is and always has hit righties much better than lefties.

It's cool with me. I'm glad to see Carlos moved down, I love the kid, but he ain't a 4 hitter right now.

Not the lineup so much as a couple people you're forced to have in it and the pitching you're facing.

Tough road ride now.

Nice to see Gradys name back in there. And I guess today is as good a day as any to give Choo the day off. If I remember right, he got completely dominated by Price the 1st time.

Despite my earlier pronouncement that Price is an All Star pitcher, he has not been as good as I had thought.
Did not pitch well his last two times out, so maybe we can get a few off of him.

Need to get back to the strong starting pitching/battle into the 7th and make something happen mode.

Price has lost his last 2- at CWS and home vs Baltimore (spit) - pitched 13 innings and allowed 7 runs. Got almost no run support.

Price dominated everybody. Lefty, righty, white, black, Hispanic. He dominated them all.

Damn. Ellsbury singled and stole second already vs. Detroit. Sound familiar?

The Red Sox will need a lot of runs, with Wakefield starting. That's my take, anyway.

This lineup only looks OK to me against the lefties.... If we see it against Shields tomorrow (which I doubt we will) then I might vomit.

Baseball 101 question: do pitching coaches count throws to first as pitches thrown? Are they considered to be tiring to the pitcher?

Ive counted 6 fastballs right over the middle not swung at already. There is a thing as being too patient. With a guy like Price you gotta take a hack at those. Not going to get many hittable pitches.

And as I type this Kearns watches another one for called strike 3.... :dead:

Next to hanging change-up in the Baseball Dictionary is a picture of a pitch that looked exactly like the one Tomlin threw to Kotchman.

Can't give up too many more now.

Tomlin has left a few like that already today. He got lucky on Longoria in the 1st.

Is it possible to have a slower OF than we have tonight? Shelley should have made it to the ball. Hung up there forever.

This is Tomlin. 20 home runs allowed in 22 starts. He's doing it with men on for a change which is bad. This is the Tomlin Buffum fears.

You can't complain that they're not being aggressive on the fastball and then complain that they didn#t make him work.

Orlando did exactly what you wanted him to do.... attack the fastball.... he's just not very good.

Give me a list of players who would feast on 96 at the letters.

Next list.

You must have not seen the at bat. Those pitches were belt high, hardly at the letters.

No. I saw the at bat.

There's a reason that lefties hit .211 career off Price. Watch the game. If you see why, please let me know.

Josh just doesn't look like he has anything today. His velocity is down from normal( hes sitting about 86 on his fastball) and his location is horrendous. I didn't expect a victory today against Price regardless though, so its really a moot point.
