Per just about everybody and their brother on Twitter, the Tribe will in fact promote Alex White to make his ML debut on Saturday.

I was already going, but this is a nice bonus.

I buy that for the most part. I don't think they can hurt Alex by bringing him up now.

However, in a case of a high schooler like David Clyde or Todd Van Poppel, I think much damage can be done by throwing to high schoolers, then facing the best of the best. It didn't work out too well for those 2.

Good point sir. There's a lot of growing up and maturing kids do between 17 and 22. You might well overwhelm a kid at 18.

One got hurt (and it's likely he would have anyway - like a zillion other young pitchers) and one of them was overhyped and not nearly as good as advertised. If Todd Van Poppel would have come up at 24 he still would've had trouble getting outs. Coming up young wasn't the problem - command and a lack of secondary pitches was.

One of the biggest fallacies in baseball - actually it's so much the contrary its not funny. The Hall is littered with guys that big leagued it very young, as a matter of fact, it's pretty much a trait of all Hall of Famers.

CC and Colon were brought through pretty quickly. Know why the Tribe didn't ruin them? They could PLAY. But some'll tell ya how they ruined Sowers...

Kudos to the Tribe for bringing up, at this point, clearly the best option.

Doesn't White have to be up here for a certain amount of time for him to qualify as a Super 2?

Not sure how long they plan to have White up here, but if he's only filling in until Talbot/Carrasco come back he shouldn't qualify.

Yes. Pitching a game or two should not affect his status.

The real decision will be if he pitches well and if Carrasco needs an extended amount of time away, what do you do?

I don't think it makes a difference for free agency (in terms of "giving up" a year). Only for arbitration and how much he gets paid.

BTW, on Simmons' podcast a few days ago, Jonah Keri speculated that, although the next labor contract should be (relatively, compared to the NFL and NBA) peaceful negotiations, he expects the players to try to revise the free agency rules to change things so that teams can't just wait a few weeks before calling somebody up to delay free agency a year.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if White pitches well and both Carrasco and Talbot come back 100% healthy and effective.
