What a load of crap.

Let the Dogers sell off their payroll like Cleveland & Pittsburgh.

^ obviously has about 1/10th of the facts at his disposal. This is the most needed and most intelligent thing Selig has done in years.

Those two things don't seem to be mutually exclusive. Selig/MLB takes over the team, but it still has huge McCourt-related debts on its books. Given those debts, their payroll will still have to be (relatively) low (if not small market low), until they find a new buyer.

Semi-OT: Ranking the top 200 global sports franchises in per-player payroll. Interesting.

(Aston Villa is 60 spots above the Browns.)

The last time I saw a team taken over by the league it was the Cleveland Lumberjacks.

I hope this has a happier ending.

Although it seems like a hockey team got taken over by the NHL since then...

People here are in full PANIC mode right now. Surprisingly, Los Dogyers are more popular than the Lakers here, despite all the success of the later.

Can Kemp play 1b?

Didn't the MLB control the Texas Rangers last year?

That was more interim basis while ownership was determined. Not for general suck like in LA as far as I remember.

Completely selective and only done because the divorce made the books public.

How many of these small market owners who have no other outside enterprise are doing the same sort of thing quietly without the 3 ring circus ? yet they ar eleft unmolested by Buddy becasue after all, they are small market and supposed to lose.

Again, let the Dodgers struggle, let them sell off their players and go low bargain basement payroll. If it's good enough for Pittsburgh since the mid-90's, should be good enough for LA. But, oh, good lord now. If LA or NYY or Boston get shitty ownership, you must intercede and take the franchise so it can spend and contend.

And THAT'S what's wrong with MLB.

Dodgers = too big to fail? ;-)

+1 on JB's take.

(IMO, final straw was Selig getting worried about McCourt skimping on security after the incident on opening day)

What can i say? I'm concise.

It should be interesting to see what, if anything, Selig does with the Mets.

(as an aside, how bad is it to get swindled in not one, but TWO ponzi schemes?)

The Mets aren't baseball royalty. He'll let them burn.

And we pay every month into social security and medicare, so we're all getting hosed by 2 ponzi schemes. ;-)
