Herrmann optioned, Smith to be activated...

Unread postby British_Pharaoh » Thu Apr 14, 2011 12:20 pm

Indians optioned RHP Frank Herrmann to Triple-A Columbus.Herrmann won a bullpen job out of spring training, but posted allowed five runs -- four earned -- on six hits over his first four appearances this season. The 26-year-old right-hander was adequate for the Indians last season, so he'll probably be back eventually.

The Indians are expected to activate Joe Smith (abdomen) from the disabled list before Friday's game against the Orioles.
Smith began the season on the disabled list with a strained abdominal muscle, but is back to full health. He allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings during a rehab stint with Double-A Akron while striking out seven and walking a pair.

I guess they are not ready to lose Durbin and hope as he pitches more he will give better results. And with Herrmann having options we know how Shappy type baseball operations work.

It's not like Durbin's a rookie. Guy's pitched his way out of slumps before. Herrmann had options. You don't give up your only real bullpen vet on account of a couple bad outings.
